An Opportunity has arisen within the Think Family Safeguarding Service for an enthusiastic and skilled Lead Nurse within the Children in Care Team

Due to additional investment, this is an exciting opportunity to join an established team as we expand and develop the service.

We are looking for an ambitious individual, who will lead the team of Specialist Children in Care Nurses under the direction of the Named Nurse Children in Care. Due to additional investment, we are taking the next steps in developing and expanding great community services and improving the health outcomes for our Children in Care.

We are looking to recruit a motivated practitioner with initiative, drive and up to date knowledge of the Children in Care health agenda. The Lead Nurse Children in Care will manage a nursing team delivering statutory health assessments and health interventions, deputise for the Named Nurse for Children in Care contributing to reports for commissioners and Corporate Parenting Board. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate flexibility and creative thinking in respect of service delivery. Knowledge of recent documents and strategies driving the development of services for Children in Care is essential as well as understanding the principles of safeguarding children and young people.

The Lead Nurse Children in Care will work closely with Named Safeguarding Professionals and multi-professional clinical teams to ensure that the Trust’s statutory responsibilities for Children in Care are met.

Candidates are required to show evidence of their original certificates for qualifications to the interview panel.

Children in Care Team at Wrightington Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust encompasses, promoting the welfare of children/young people and adults at risk considerate of a Think Family/Foster Carers approach to protect from harm. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a sound understanding of the issues relating to children, young people in care and adults at risk.

Working closely with Named Nurse for Children in Care and multi-professional clinical teams to ensure that the Trust’s statutory responsibilities to Corporate parenting and promote the welfare of children, young people, adults and their families/foster carers .

Qualifications

  • Current valid NMC Registration
  • Post registration education in Child Protection/Safeguarding/Children in Care and adults’ at-risk module at graduate level or willingness to undertake
  • Evidence of continued professional development and experiential learning
  • Teaching/training qualification or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Recent and extensive experience relating to caring for children, young people, adults, and families
  • Experience of Children in Care and Adults at risk, including experience of trauma informed care
  • Experience of team working, multi-agency working and ability to work co-operatively
  • Clinical credibility demonstrated through experience in Children in Care
  • Experience of representing the organisation at safeguarding/ Children in Care meetings
  • Experience in providing safeguarding/Children in Care support and advice
  • Experience of developing, implementing, delivering, and evaluating training
  • Experience of key elements of change management
  • Experience of undertaking audits
  • Experience of report writing

  • Ability to manage personal stress and that of others in highly emotive and distressing circumstances
  • Experience of policy development and/or implementation
  • In depth knowledge of trauma informed and responsive approaches when safeguarding/Children in Care and adults
  • Knowledge of strategy, guidelines, and policy development in relation to safeguarding/Children in Care
  • Understanding of the impact domestic abuse, child/adult mental ill health, substance misuse and adverse childhood experiences
  • Knowledge of National, regional and local safeguarding/Children in Care polices and strategic safeguarding/Children in Care priorities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legislation relating to Adults at risk and Children in Care and the implications for practice and governance arguments
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the current issues affecting safeguarding and protecting Children in Care and adults at risk in practice, including clinical effectiveness, evidence-based practice and clinical governance
