We are looking for experienced intensive care doctors (ST5 level and above) who are interested in completing a fellowship year in Adult Critical Care Transfer Medicine. You will work as member of the East Midlands Adult Critical Care Transfer Service (ACCOTS) with the potential for some time allocated to the paediatric retrieval and ECMO service, depending on your interests. This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the UK’s most developed critical care transfer services. You will become a key member of a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team providing adult critical care transfers and will gain valuable experience.

Main duties of the job

You will gain valuable experience in the following key areas:

Logistics and transfer of critical ill patients between critical care units and for emergency escalation to tertiary referral centres.

Time to develop clinical and non-clinical skills working in frequently changes teams

·       Opportunity and support for national presentations of audit / data / research

·       Option to see Air and Road Transport of patients with Severe Respiratory Failure including mobile ECMO.

·       Option to join the paediatric team to understand the paediatric retrieval service

·       Opportunity to participate and develop critical care transfer training including simulation in our brand new simulation suite

·       Opportunity to develop management skills, developing governance for the service

Working for our organisation

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

· high-quality care for all,

· being a great place to work,

· partnerships for impact, and

· research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

· we are compassionate,

· we are proud,

· we are inclusive, and

· we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Time will be allocated for non-clinical duties to allow the successful applicant to take part in additional activities. This fellowship post is suitable for ICM trainees from all disciplines. Posts are also suitable for single or dual/triple specialty trainees (ICM, Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Acute Internal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Renal Medicine) wishing to pursue an Out of Programme Activity (OOPT or OOPE).
