Anaesthetics Fellow with an interest in Medical Education

NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow

We are actively promoting flexible working options, helping you to manage a work / life balance

Job overview

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the posts of Anaesthetic Fellow with an interest in Medical Education  .

Applicants applying for the post must satisfy the following:

  • Full GMC registration.
  • Anaesthetic experience (IAC and IACOC as minimum)
  • CRB clearance

Applicants should be able to demonstrate an established interest in medical education, for example through previous teaching or postgraduate qualifications.

The post is for a period of 12 months.

Post Graduate Doctors in Training are eligible to apply. Trainees should be on course for a standard ARCP outcome and discuss an Out Of Programme (OOP) pause with their TPD. An OOP(P) would allow competencies achieved to be evaluated at ARCP on return to programme using a gap analysis tool and potentially counted towards training. Applicants in ST6 or ST7 may also count time towards training under the 'Education & Training' Special Interest Area' (SIA) (details from the RCoA awaited).

Main duties of the job

This post is designed to develop the career of clinicians with an interest in medical education.

Applicants will gain a deeper understanding of educational theory, it’s application to teaching practices and further their teaching capabilities. Fellows will also acquire an understanding of education governance within a large NHS Trust through participation in committees and liaison with education management (including external bodies).

The fellow will support predominantly postgraduate education within ITAPS. It is expected that successful completion of this fellowship will provide the applicant with desirable Medical Education as well as Leadership and Management experience that will aid in future job applications.

Working for our organisation

Our new strategy, 'Leading in healthcare, trusted in communities' was developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners and is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
