Job overview

Diabetic Eye Screening Programme - Screener/ Grader

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (LLR DESP) as a Screener/Grader. Our team operates daily screening clinics at a variety of sites across the LLR area.

The successful individual would join the team as a trainee Screener/Grader at band 3, progressing to band 4 salary and permanent position on completion of the Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners. Practical training in retinal imaging (photography) will take place at a range of venues across the LLR area, whilst grading training will take place at our main offices at the Leicester General Hospital, Leicester. Study and assessments will take place at the Leicester General Hospital. The Level 3 Diploma consists of e-learning, written work and practical skills assessments, and can usually be completed in about 12 months. Persons already possessing the relevant Diploma certificate (or previous City and Guilds diploma) are welcome to apply and if successful would join the team as a band 4.

Please ensure you can provide evidence of the required qualifications, as you will be expected to present these at your id check appointment if successful.

Main duties of the job

This is a development role with the post holder working towards progression to a DESP Qualified Screener Grader at Band 4, supported by the successful completion of the Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Diploma in Health Screening and successful completion of the competency assessment framework.

The trainee will work as part of the clinical Diabetic Eye Screening Programme team delivering health care that focuses on the direct needs of the patient. They will carry out specific clinical tasks and responsibilities as part of their training program as delegated by registered DESP Screener Graders in conjunction with their competencies.

In addition, the post holder will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Diabetic Eye Screener within a specific clinical setting and ensure successful completion of the DESP Training Program.
