Job overview
An excited opportunity in the Emergency department team has become available as an International fellow at CT3+ level (or equivalent).
The successful candidate will work within the Emergency Department at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. It is one of the busiest in the UK with good standards of care and performance. Our aim is to be one of the best acute and emergency services providers in the UK over the next five years.
The Leicester Royal Infirmary has the only Emergency Department serving the city of Leicester and the counties of Leicestershire and Rutland and is one of the busiest in the country, treating over 230,000 new patients, a quarter of whom are children. The ED incorporates:
12 Resuscitation bays
32 bay Majors area
Injuries area with 10 cubicles
Separate Paediatric ED with 12 rooms and 8 bays
16 bed Emergency Decisions unit
Emergency Frailty Unit
The Adult ED is one of the busiest in the country, seeing 230,000 patients a year, sometimes equating to 700-800 patients per day.
Our large consultant team sees a high acuity case mix, supporting a large number of sub-specialty interests including Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Geriatric Emergency Medicine, pre-hospital Emergency Medicine and medical education.
Main duties of the job
The responsibilities of the post are similar to that of the CT3 training grade doctors. The main duties and responsibilities of this post are to:
- Carry out initial assessments, investigations and manage patients in the Emergency Department
- Supervise junior trust grade doctors clinically in the department
- Participate in teaching for junior medical staff and nursing staff
- Admit and discharge patients safely from the Emergency Department
- Ensure a safe and high standard of care of all patients in the Emergency Department
- Work flexibility between all areas of the department.
- Participate in the running of the department.
Working for our organisation
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
