To deliver a helpful and professional car park service for all 
site users.

The hospital car park service provides a high profile/visible 
car park service to patients staff and visitors. The car park 
service responds to all car park-related issues and maintains 
a high standard of customer care

Main duties of the job

Managing the car parks on a day-to-day basis, in line with the Trust’s car park policy, thus ensuring clear access is maintained for emergency services and that infringements of the Trust’s car park policy are dealt with and reported in the appropriate way.

To act at all times in a manner that contributes to a positive image of the Trust, providing, as required, appropriate help, information or other assistance to all site users.

To Link with all site users (face-to-face) to ensure full understanding of the parking options and restrictions. At times this will require tact and persuasion and there may be barriers to understanding or resistance to adherence. In order to provide the fullest information the post holder is expected to acquire a good appreciation and awareness of other roles and activities which interface with own role.


To Assist site users (face-to-face) in assessing the options available as there are multiple options for most site users. Some users will need to be guided to the best course of action by looking at all their individual requirements and matching these to the Trust facilities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To Communicate with colleagues using a two-way radio
Assist with day-to-day running of the car park service and respond to ad hoc requests that may compete for attention with the standard routine.


To monitor all car parks and ensure enforcement of violating vehicles using a computer-based system for the issuing of Parking Charge Notices (this includes the taking and storage of photographic evidence relating to the offence).


To patrol thoroughfares and car parks to ensure compliance with parking 
restrictions and responding to any calls. 


To ensure all red routes are kept clear at all times.


To complete fault finding and basic maintenance on pay stations and any other parking equipment , this may require machine dismantling and re-assembling.


To Collect cash from the pay stations on a daily basis; top up pay stations with change and process all coin jams. Carry out technical audits on the machines to ensure all consumables are available and any stock control measures are taken.


To Continually monitor the fabric of the car park and surrounding areas in order to ensure service quality and performance.


Participate as a full member of the team, e.g. supporting and training other staff, participating in team meetings.

All team members are expected to contribute ideas and suggestions for 
improving service delivery in own work area and supporting initiatives aimed at helping to improve service delivery. 


Post holders are required to act on their own initiative and accept responsibility for ensuring that the quality of their work meets required quality and performance standards. Often working without immediate supervision, must to be able to prioritise own workload and bring to management attention any issues which are adversely affecting service quality and performance.


Undertake other ad hoc duties as prescribed by manager and within scope of skill and capability. 


Assist with access to all hospital buildings by directing users to the most 
appropriate location. This assistance will range from directing a visitor to parking areas to assisting a relative bringing in an extremely sick person.


To help, advise and assist staff, patients and visitors on car parking issues and way finding.
