Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Specialist Nurse

Band 6 – 1 post - 22.5 hrs

An exciting opportunity has arisen for band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialists within the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) service.

Main duties of the job

You will work within a friendly and supportive team providing expert professional advice and clinical leadership in the development and delivery of a service for patients referred with inflammatory bowel disease.

You will work collaboratively with patients, the public and professional staff aiming to promote health, prevent disease and encourage independence wherever possible. This post will also provide you with the opportunity to be innovative and forward thinking in the future development of our IBD service. Our IBD patient’s value highly having access to specialist nurses, who can provide continuity of care and will take a holistic approach to their well-being.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will  work alongside our Consultant Gastroenterologists and liaise with surgical teams, manage your own  nurse-led clinics, review in-patients, coordinate biological therapies, discuss treatment options, and implement IBD MDT outcomes. You will be expected to be flexible in working across our Leicester hospitals.

The work is varied and demands a high level of autonomy and flexibility. You will join a motivated and established team in providing care for a group of patients with complex and varied needs within the specialty of IBD. Care is delivered in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

The successful candidate will have a vision for the service and be able to deliver a high quality patient focused service within the present day NHS. You will be enthusiastic, pro-active and be a role model within the organisation.

You will be an experienced  Band 5 nurse or above, within the specialty of GI medicine/GI surgery and evidence of continued professional development. This post also needs a nurse with personal and professional maturity.

A full induction package with educational support will be available.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RN with current PIN. No restrictions to practice
  • Holds a recognised Teaching & Assessing in Healthcare qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experienced nurse at Band 5 or or above with good knowledge and experience in Gastroenterology
  • Proven leadership skills & evidence of leading change
Desirable criteria
  • Cannulation & Venepuncture

Communication

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written & verbal communication
  • Demonstrates good team working ability and can work autonomously
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced communication course
