Job overview
We are excited to offer the opportunity to join our team as Lead Pharmacist for MSS&UGGs (Musculoskeletal, specialist surgery, urology, gastroenterology and GI surgery).
Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a highly specialised pharmacy service to patients.

They will be expected to provide expertise to nursing and medical staff (within the Trust and externally) on the management of patients.

They will be expected to integrate with the relevant clinical teams to ensure efficient transfer of clinical and medicines management issues.

They will take overarching responsibility for all pharmacy research and audit projects within the service and be responsible for overseeing training including undergraduate placements, trainee pharmacists and diploma including independent prescribing.

The successful post holder must have previous relevant clinical experience, have experience of using electronic prescribing systems and understand the complexities of delivering a pharmacy service.

They must also have previous leadership and management experience to have oversight of the day to day running of the service and to be able to resolve any operational issues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Responsible for the provision of the service to UHL.
Specific responsibilities include:
- To ensure the provision of high quality, safe, comprehensive (clinical, supply, financial and operational) pharmaceutical service. * Clinically screen prescriptions on EPMA.
- Provide expert clinical advice
- Oversee training of staff, including undergraduate placements, trainee and foundation pharmacists, diploma and IP students

Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MPharm Postgraduate clinical qualification or equivalent experience
- Registered with GPhC
- Member of professional organisation e.g. RPS, UKCPA, BOPA
Desirable criteria
- Further leadership or management qualification or evidence of course attendance
- Registered prescriber
Experience
Essential criteria
- Understanding of NHS funding streams and experience of financial monitoring and forecasting.
- Experience of delivering education and training at post-graduate level
- Expert clinical knowledge and skills relevant to area of practice
Planning and Organisation skills
Essential criteria
- Experience of monitoring standards of service and influencing others to maintain or improve performance.
Communication and relationship skills
Essential criteria
- Proven ability to influence beyond professional boundaries.
- Experience of leading a team delivering complex services.
- Able to provide highly complex information on clinical pharmacy and issues and impart knowledge to other healthcare professionals (up to and including senior consultant level/regional level)
Analytical and Judgement skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable ability to use audit to improve service or clinical outcomes.
- Able to identify and manage risks (patient and financial)
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
