We have vacancies for both band 5 and band 6 midwives. Successful candidates will be provided with support from our recruitment and retention team with orientation to all clinical areas with the option of core positions.
Band 5 newly qualified midwives will benefit from our extensive preceptorship programme, in line with the new National Preceptorship Framework standards (2023) providing a firm foundation in starting your journey into midwifery. Preceptorship programmes can be personalised to suit individuals needs and wishes to incorporate rotations between the hospital and community and is available upon request.
Full and part time hours are available and we actively promote flexible working hours to enable you to balance your work and home life.

We would love for you to join our team where you will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team in an environment that is supportive and empowering. You will be expected to fulfil the role of a midwife defined by the Nursing and Midwifery Council upholding high standards of quality evidence based care.

You will work autonomously alongside the multi-disciplinary team to plan, implement and review ongoing holistic care to women in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.

You will need skills of prioritisation, knowledge of local guidelines and policies to inform your practice, be flexible, adaptable and advocate for women, birthing people and families to ensure safe and effective care is provided.

Band 5
To consolidate the theory and practice acquired during midwifery training in order to maintain a high standard of midwifery care at all times with the support of the multi-disciplinary team around you. You will be facilitated to acquire additional competencies in preparation to become a band 6 midwife through the support of colleagues and your own initiative and proactivity.
Band 6
To deliver total care to mother and babies within the hospital environment as required to meet individual needs ensuring high standards of evidence based midwifery care at all times. As a teaching hospital we expect you to provide support both educationally and clinically to students and colleagues alike.
You are empowered to develop as a band 6 in the direction that you wish and will be supported with your own personal and professional development needs, enabling further progression.
As well as rotational midwives, we would support band 6 midwives who wish to be core members of the midwifery team in specific areas to enable better job satisfaction, development and improvement initiatives and ultimately improving patient experience and care given.

Skills and Abilities

- Good standard of verbal and written English to enable effective communication
- Upholds a high standard of midwifery care
- Understands clinical risk and quality issues within the NHS
- Competent in clinical skills such as interpretation of fetal monitoring both intelligent auscultation and CTG, management of epidural anaesthesia etc
- Able to initiate emergency measures in a maternity setting such as PPH, neonatal resuscitation and shoulder dystocia
- Computer literate
- Ability to work on own initiative/ prioritise and manage own time

- Physical examination of the newborn (NIPE)
- Advanced skills including perineal suturing, venepuncture, cannulation, drug administration
- Took part in skills drills with the MDT for training purposes
Knowledge and experience

- Experience working within all relevant clinical environments in maternity
- Knowledge of up to date policies and guidelines guiding clinical practice
