Job overview

The newly expanded Oncology and Hematology Unit (OAU) at the Leicester Royal Infirmary is looking for an enthusiastic nurse to join our team.

The post holder will carry out nursing interventions and treatments to both specialty Oncology and Hematology patients, providing them with high quality nursing care.

The OAU is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day and admits patients directly from the Emergency Floor, strong assessment and escalation skills are essential for this role.

This is a permanent position and we do offer flexible working agreements on request.

Main duties of the job

* To be able to manage a case load of patients

* Co-ordinating patient treatment at a time which is convenient to them and in a environment which is both friendly and caring

* To be able to pre assess,  administer high cost infusion and plan ongoing treatment

* To  be able show initiative and promote the services offered to assist UHL in admission avoidance

* To be able to show initiative and communicate in a creative manner

  • Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidence-based nursing care for a group of patients
  • Assist in and contribute to the management and organisation of a ward/clinical area.
  • Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing
  • Actively participate    in    the    education,    development    and supervision of other staff
  • Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their
  • Act as a clinical and professional role model, mentoring, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement within the clinical area.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining own and others’ health, safety and
  • Ensure own actions assist with maintaining best practice and Standards for Better Health.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act
