Our Cancer Centre based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary boasts a comprehensive Cancer and Clinical Haematology Service:

·         The Haematology Service cares for more than 55,000 outpatients and over 11,000 day case patients each year. We have  a stem cell transplant unit (autologous and allogeneic), , Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre,  with  EMSTN, the haemoglobinopathy co-ordinating centre (HCC) for sickle cell disease in the East Midlands, hosted at UHL.UHL is on track to deliver CAR-T and other cellular therapies 2024/5..

·         The Oncology Service cares for over 30,000 outpatients and almost 13,000 day case and SACT patients each year.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Cancer & Haematology Pharmacist to join our friendly team You will lead on an specific area of cancer, to deliver, develop and manage the clinical pharmacy service to this group of patients.

We are proud to be part of an innovative team including two Consultant Pharmacists specialising in Haematology and Oncology and Clinical Trials We are a friendly and dedicated pharmacist and technician team with a passion for delivering excellent patient care. The team is  rapidly expanding  the role of  pharmacist prescribers in SACT. If you are a prescriber you will have the opportunity to participate in clinics within a specific area. There will be an opportunity to undertake the prescribing course, if you are not currently a prescriber.

You will be part of an exciting comprehensive training programme for University students, foundation and specialist pharmacists. You will be supported to develop in line with the RPS/HEE Advanced Clinical Practice frameworks.

Current exciting projects within the Oncology and Haematology service includes further improving our patient satisfaction by increasing the number of SACT treatments administered closer to home or in the  home.

You will be a professionally qualified Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council with extensive post qualification Oncology and/or Haematology experience. You will have strong interpersonal skills and be proficient in IT (Excel), enthusiastic and well-motivated.

  • Providing expert pharmaceutical advice to improve patients care both for inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Clinically verify chemotherapy prescriptions and SACT treatments to provide safe, cost effective and evidence based treatments for patients.
  • To co-ordinate the management and development of the team delivering specialist clinical pharmacy and aseptic services to Cancer & Haematology patients.
  • To work as an Independent prescriber and prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice
    and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice.
  • Participation and leading, when required, on innovative patient focused projects.
