Pre-assessment of patients for Urology, General surgery and Gastroenterology. 

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals to lead, develop and shape a pre-assessment team and focus on delivering excellent pre-operative care. You will work within a friendly and supportive team providing expert professional advice and clinical leadership.

You should possess excellent communication skills, be visible and accessible with quality and standards as your priority.

You will need to be flexible and resilient in order to cope with the demands of the role. In addition you must be adaptable to change and influence your team members to enable you to implement and evaluate new ways of working.

If you are forward thinking, dynamic and enthusiastic, have leadership skills, preferably with experience in pre-assessment, then this post is for you. You will support and develop the team ensuring they are valued and skilled to manage their workload. Working to streamline the service, improve efficiency and communication and reduce on the day cancellations. 

You will be organised, knowledgeable about the pre assessment process and possess excellent  & IT skills. 

We are dedicated to investing our time in developing you both professionally and as an individual. In return, we will provide operational assistance, leadership educational opportunities and you will be fully supported by the Matron and Senior management team. 

Main duties of the job

Be a visible, accessible, credible and assertive ward leader to who patients, relatives and staff can turn for assistance, advice and support

Lead the ward team and build successful links between nursing and other professions to support and promote effective multi-disciplinary team working.

Lead and support the ward team through the process of change, demonstrating tenacity, drive, professional integrity, balance and perspective.

Develop the role of other team members, supporting them in gaining the appropriate competencies to achieve the required standards of care.

Motivate all team members and lead innovation and expertise in clinical practice by example.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Take 24-hour accountability and responsibility for the given area, visible, accessible and responsive to the needs of service users, patients, carers and the public.

  • Provide direction, effective and inspirational leadership to the nursing and multi disciplinary team (including ancillary and clinical support staff) within the area for which they are accountable.

  • Act as an expert clinical practitioner providing through themselves and their team an excellent quality of care to patients and service users.

Act as a clinical and managerial role model within the ward team, directorate and across the wider organisation.

  • Take responsibility for the provision of a supportive learning environment for all students on placement within the area for which they are responsible.

  • Practice clinically in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for a defined caseload.

  • Work to make improvements and implement changes within the pre-assessment service to improve patient care and experience.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RN with current PIN. No restrictions to practice
  • 1st Degree in Nursing or health related subject
  • Recognised teaching & assessing qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Masters degree in nursing or relevant health related subject

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written & verbal communication
  • Proven leadership & management skills
  • Excellent IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced communication course

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experienced nurse at Band 6 or above
  • Good working knowlewdge of Preoperative assessment
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrates an understanding or has been involved in the Change management process
