Radiotherapy Physics
An opportunity has arisen at the University Hospitals of Leicester for a highly motivated physics graduate to join our team. The post holder will be primarily based in the treatment planning area of Radiotherapy Physics, Leicester Royal Infirmary, providing support to radiotherapy clinical trials and research projects but will also work over a range of areas in the department. Training will be provided appropriate to the role, which is vital to support patient participation in trials involving radiotherapy. This role would be ideal for anyone interested in pursuing a career in Radiotherapy Physics with a Physics degree. Flexible working and some evening work will be required to meet the needs of the service.
You will join the department, based at Leicester Royal Infirmary, at an exciting time. A new Brachytherapy facility, a new Halcyon linear accelerator and an ARIA 17 Oncology management system upgrade have recently been installed to support treating patients with modern equipment and techniques. Equipment includes 5 Varian linear accelerators (currently 4 TrueBeam and 1 Halcyon), Prosoma Virtual Simulation software, the Varian Eclipse treatment planning system, 2 wide bore CT scanners with 4DCT (Canon and GE), an XStrahl superficial unit and a Varian GammaMed brachytherapy unit. We utilise MVision, Proknow and are ISO9001:2015 certified using QPulse quality management software.
Main duties of the job
Provide scientific and administrative support for the set-up and support of Radiotherapy Clinical Trials.
Participate in Research and Development projects under direction and supervision.
Provides direct clinical service to patients by assisting with basic treatment planning duties to generate a clinical plan and assist with workload tracking.
Assist with and perform treatment unit and patient specific quality assurance procedures to ensure accurate treatment delivery.
The post holder will work over a range of areas in Radiotherapy Physics to provide support. They will work within defined policies and will be managed by registered staff.
They will undergo training in Radiotherapy Physics and associated techniques as appropriate to the role.

The Leicester Radiotherapy Department is a friendly, busy and modern training department. It is housed in a purpose built Oncology Unit, which is centrally located with easy access to both road and rail connections. Leicester itself is a vibrant, friendly multicultural city within easy access to beautiful countryside. We provide radiotherapy services to a catchment population of approximately 1 million within Leicestershire and Rutland and are ISO 9001:2015 certificated and have well established links with Leicester University.
