Job overview
This appointment is in Anaesthesia at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust based at Grantham Hospital, but it is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust’s locations or outreach district general hospital clinics. The person appointed will be required to devote substantially the whole of his/her time to the duties of the post.
Main duties of the job
Appointees will have duties providing anaesthesia for a range of surgical specialities, and be expected to provide out of hours service to the Critical Care Unit including transferring critically ill patients to other hospitals. The appointee will also be expected, in conjunction with his / her colleagues, to take part in a comprehensive General Anaesthetic service at Grantham Hospital and provide, on a reciprocal basis, cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
He/she will be responsible to the Lead Clinician in Anaesthesia.
He/she will be expected to be involved in the education of nursing and midwifery staff, Operating Department Practitioners and other allied clinical professions as appropriate.
He/she will be required to play an active part in the robust clinical audit programme in operation within the Department, attending Clinical Audit meetings and taking part in regional and national audits. He/she will be required to report all critical incidents and attend and support the Departmental Critical Incident Report, Morbidity & Mortality and Anaesthetic Departmental Team meetings.
The appointee will have continuing responsibility for patients in his / her care and for the proper functioning of the department.
Working for our organisation
The terms and conditions of employment will be determined by the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust terms and conditions of employment. These are generally in line with the relevant provisions of the Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales) and General Whitley Council Terms and Conditions of Service, as amended from time to time. Copies of these can be seen in the Personnel Department.
In determining salary for the post, the Trust will pay no less favourable rates than those paid to NHS Consultant Medical and Dental Staff. If, in the future, the Trust establishes alternative negotiating arrangements you will be notified of those arrangements, and thereafter any agreements thus reached will form part of your Contract of Employment.
The post holder shall have medical clearance arranged by the Trust before taking up employment.

- • 2 years continuous recent experience of anaesthesia
- • Experience and competency in transfer of critically ill patient
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- ALS
- MB BS or equivalent
- • PLAB or PLAB exemption
- • Postgraduate qualification in anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
- • Currently accredited Life Support provider one or more of ALS/ATLS
Evidence of Particular: - Knowledge - Skills - Aptitudes
Essential criteria
- good written and verbal English language skills and excellent general communication skills
- • Demonstrate 6 months relevant and recent experience in intensive care medicine
