Job overview

Domestic staff provide an important support role in the delivery of an effective Pathology service to patients, Clinicians and General Practitioners. Their main role is to take responsibility for the cleaning and tidying of the Pathology Laboratory.

Delegated work and duties will arranged and performed under the indirect supervision of a State Registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS).

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder would be expected to take responsibility for cleaning and tidying an area of the Pathology Laboratory. They will need to work with other domestic staff as part of a team, and be able to work within strict health and safety guidelines

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The following are necessary to fulfill domestic duties.

·       Washing and buffing floors in the laboratory, toilets and corridors.

·       Cleaning sinks in the laboratory and cleaning patient toilet area.

·       Clean and tidy patient waiting area and blood collecting room.

·       Disposal of waste: Waste must be classified as general, clinical or confidential waste. The post holder will be expected to ensure correct disposal of waste, including packaging of waste to Trust and H&S protocols. This will be particularly applicable in the correct use of sharps bins.

·       Removing dirty laundry from collection bins.

·       Clean, tidy and vacuum coffee lounge, seminar room, bedrooms and offices.

·       Staff are required to maintain confidentiality of information gained in the execution of their duties.

·       Staff must comply with Health & Safety legislation, and Trust and Departmental H&S Policies. It is the duty of the post holder to ensure that they attend mandatory training sessions.

·       Staff are required to be familiar with, and adhere to Trust policies and procedures.
