Consultant in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery

Consultant

Job overview

We have two excellent opportunities for dynamic team players to join Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust as Consultants in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery. We also welcome applicants with consultant-level experience who are seeking to complete CESR within 2 years of joining the team (in such cases, a Fixed Term 6 month locum appointment would initially be offered rather than a substantive post and renewed up to 2 years subject to successful achievement of CESR competencies).

Humber Health Partnership is a Group arrangement formed by Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Your base will be Diana Princess of Wales Hospital but travel as necessary between hospitals/ clinics across Humber Health Partnership will be required with a planned and cost-effective approach expected.

The Pink Rose Suite Breast Care Unit was purpose built in 2007 aided by £250,000 from local donations. The Service continues to benefit from unparalleled local charity support.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be appointed as Honorary Senior Lecturer at Hull York Medical School (HYMS).  This honorary appointment is in recognition of contribution to teaching and research and holders of honorary titles may request access to HYMS and University premises and facilities, systems, and library services.

Main duties of the job

We seek two Consultant Breast Surgeons to support the emerging workforce strategy for our Breast Team. This annualised 10 PA post would be ideal for surgeons with an excellent track record in the training of junior breast surgeons in advanced skills in both clinic and theatre setting. Or alternatively those seeking to become a Consultant through a CESR route.

The individuals should have a history of supportive team working and championing the development of breast practitioner roles. In addition, they should be prepared to work flexibly in clinic and theatre, including operating on more than one hospital site in the region. This post does not have an on-call commitment.

Working for our organisation

The Humber Health Partnership is one of the largest acute and community Partnership arrangements in the NHS, seeing well over one million patients every year and managing a budget of over £1.3 billion.

Made up of two Trusts - Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG) and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH) - our Partnership has significant ambitions and is committed to delivering world-class hospital and community services for the 1.65 million people we serve.

Together we employ nearly 20,000 staff. Our five main hospital sites are Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Scunthorpe General Hospital and Goole and District Hospital, for NLAG and Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital for HUTH.

As Teaching Hospitals working with the Hull York Medical School, we both lead and contribute to research in many areas - biomedical research, primary care, palliative medicine, cardiovascular and respiratory medicine, vascular surgery, cancer surgery and oncology.

We believe that by developing a diverse, inclusive, innovative, skilled and caring workforce, we can deliver excellent care to our patients and a great future for our employees, our Partnership and our community.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

These posts will work to an annualised contract of 10 PA per week, with the work pattern to be agreed with the successful candidate. The work pattern will involve a mixture of new, follow-up and specialist clinics as well as theatres, admin and other professional activities to support the department and the successful individuals.

The new appointees will be based in Grimsby with potential to provide a service at Scunthorpe General Hospital or Goole District Hospital for local patients. In addition, job plans may include cross-site clinical and professional activity in Hull or in Independent Sector Providers contracted to undertake NHS work.

The supporting professional activities (SPAs) allocation within the provisional job plan is an illustrative guide and will be finalised following individual agreement with successful candidates. SPA allocation will be given for a consultant's personal development. Further discussion on supporting professional activities will depend on the Trust's requirements and the individual's particular expertise. The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and surgical colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

In line with the terms and conditions, the final job plan is subject to the agreement of the Trust through the Clinical Lead and the appointee. A degree of flexible working is expected and is facilitated by weekly activity meetings in the Pink Rose Suite.

Job plans will be agreed on commencement of employment and reviewed in 6 months. The job description provides an indicative job plan.
