Digestive Diseases Health Group is supported by a Chief of Service, Director of Operations and Director of Nursing    

The group provides both medical and surgical services at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital Grimsby, Scunthorpe General Hospital and Goole District General Hospital.

We are seeking to appoint two substantive Consultant in Gastroenterology, (following an upcoming retirement) to join a team of four existing Consultants to run the department of Gastroenterology across all sites. Two Consultants already in place have a special interest in Inflammatory Bowel, haemochromatosis, hepatobiliary and pancreatic disorders and there is also an expectation of consolidation of the hepatobiliary, and Upper GI bleed services across sites.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be appointed as Honorary Senior Lecturer at Hull York Medical School (HYMS).  This honorary appointment is in recognition of contribution to teaching and research and holders of honorary titles may request access to HYMS and University premises and facilities, systems, and library services.

Main duties of the job

Both appointments will be based from Diana Princess of Wales Hospital however the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across the whole Group including the HUTH hospitals as part of the joint approach to care. 

The successful candidates will work in a rotation on a consultant of the week model.

One of the posts will include clinical practice to undertake bowel cancer screening accreditation (BCSA England). 

The appointee will be expected to share responsibility for the delivery of high quality care to the patients presenting to the Department. 

The current on call commitment is 1:6 for GI Bleeds. 

As agreed with the clinical lead there will be an opportunity to mentor, train and teach junior colleagues in the service, this includes but is not exclusive to outpatient services, endoscopy services, inpatient work, creating our consultants of the future. 

Weekly teaching takes place for both junior and specialist registrars

The successful candidates will be involved in audit, used to promote evidence based practice.  

The successful candidates will take part in all work in accordance to the Humber Health Partnership procedures and operating policies. The successful candidates will participate in the Trusts appraisal process/revalidation

The successful candidates will participate in senior staff meetings and departmental consultant staff meetings and ensure all work undertaken aligns with the teams operational strategies.

This post attracts 10 programmed activities per week to be agreed once in post. Additional PA’s may be available at the point of appointment to the post.

In addition to the above mentioned services, the Trust is working closely with the Regional Transplant Centre to provide joint clinics to patients who have undergone a liver transplant or are awaiting a transplant, providing care closer to home.
