Urgent Care Parent/ Carer Support worker

An exciting  opportunity has become available across our CAMHS Urgent care Service.

CAMHS urgent care covers our CCETT North, CCETT South and CAMHS Eating Disorder service.

Our CAMHS Crisis and Enhanced Treatment Team (CCETT) provides crisis interventions to children and young people alongside intensive community treatment to young people experiencing an acute episode of mental health distress, in addition, the service aims to prevent admissions to out of area Tier 4 inpatient beds. Our CAMHS Eating disorder Service provides assessment and intervention within a stepped care approach for children and young people with an eating disorder – anorexia nervosa, bulimia, binge eating and atypical eating disorders.

Within the teams we also utilise animal assisted therapy (AAT) and have established therapy dogs across urgent care.

We are now looking for 2 x full time (37.5hrs) / part time hours will be considered) Band 3 parent / carer support workers. You will have the option of preferred base, Lincoln, Boston, or Grantham.

This role will cover county wide therefore you must have the ability to travel.

We are looking for compassionate, highly motivated individuals to join our well-established service. We have several disciplines of practitioners within the service and multi-disciplinary team who all work closely together.

Your role, with the support of our registered Practitioners, will be supporting our Parents and Carers of the young people who are open across Urgent care.

This can be a very distressing time for our Parent/ Carers at this time; having lived experience of being in these circumstances is preferable. You will provide support in them accessing local resources and self-help material that will assist in supporting recovery. You will also be involved in the developing and co- facilitating of our parent carer groups.

The successful applicants will be expected to work a shift pattern on a Rota basis covering 7 days per week: 08:45-19:00hrs.

We are an innovative service and pride ourselves in providing training to enhance the care and support we can provide. We welcome applicants with creative ideas to help continue to develop the service.

All our teams love cakes and snacks; good baking skills is a desirable requirement for this post.

To model principles of hope, recovery and self-belief in all aspects of their work with young people and families.

Act as a role model, showing a professional and caring attitude towards families, and other professionals and colleagues.

Share coping, self-help and self-management techniques with carers and families in an appropriate and supportive manner.

Where appropriate, to provide guidance and practical support to carers to better enable them to support their child or adolescent. 

Recognising the emotional impact of caring for somebody experiencing significant distress, provide emotional support and listening ear for parent/carers.

Developing and co-facilitating carer groups

Guiding carers through periods of transition  

In line with the Triangle of Care initiative, support enhanced communication and collaboration between carers and mental health professionals, and ensure that carers have all the right information to support the recovery of veterans.

Support carers to identify access support within their local community and, where appropriate, link into carer organisations.

Develop and coordinate opportunities for carer participation and co-production of CAMHS  services.

You may occasionally be asked to undertake such other duties that are deemed necessary in order to support business continuity within the Trust. This will only include tasks where you are appropriately trained

Qualifications

  • Satisfactory level of Secondary education to GCSE English A-C grade or 9-4 grade or equivalent (may be working toward this).
  • Be able to demonstrate a good standard of English.
  • Willingness to undertake further training to support development of peer support role, and child and young person’s involvement
  • NVQ 3 in Care or equivalent

  • Training in mental health awareness or any other training relevant to this post.
  • NVQ 2 in Care or equivalent

Experience

  • Previous relevant experience working with people with mental health problems at a nursing assistant grade or equivalent within a health and social care setting.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment principles
  • Experience in providing support for people in the community or inpatient with mental health needs

  • Experience of working with people with mental health needs

Skills

  • Effective communication with service user, other members of the team and outside agencies.
  • Able to develop positive relationships with carers and assist them in developing and meeting recovery goals.

  • Understanding of service user involvement and participation and why it is important
  • Ability to work well within a team
