Clinical Psychologist

NHS AfC: Band 8a

ELFT has long been recognised as a centre of excellence for mental and health care, innovation and improvement. So it is a very exciting time for you to come and work for us. Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.

Job overview

To provide a qualified clinical psychology service to the Adult Autism Diagnostic Service which provides assessment and diagnosis for people who are suspected of being autistic. The post holder would provide highly specialist psychological assessments and interventions as  part of the diagnostic pathway as well as opportunities to help develop pre and post diagnostic interventions and signposting as required. There will be opportunities to engage with consultation work with colleagues in wider services across the trust. This would include offering advice and consultation on service users’ psychological care to psychologists and therapists who do not have a specialism in neurodiversity, and non-psychologist colleagues and to other non-professional carers.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist psychological assessments of service users referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, family members and others involved in the person’s care as part of the diagnostic pathway.

To be involved in the development and implementation of pre and post diagnostic interventions supporting the service-users based upon current research and best practice. This will be based on evidence-based assessment, formulation and lead to recommendations for the individual moving forwards.

Working for our organisation

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post

We are looking to recruit to a band 8a or a band 7 to 8a preceptorship clinical psychology post covering Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes in the Adult Autism Diagnostic Service. This is a full time post. We would also consider accepting people who work within ELFT and are looking for a secondment post. We would provide full training in autism assessments as part of this role.

Why Us?

This service is at an exciting stage in its development. There has been substantial recent investment into this service. There are many opportunities to shape and develop this service and to think creatively about how best to meet the needs of the population that we serve, reflecting the most recent research and practice guidance. There are opportunities in personal development as well as training provision and research opportunities. We believe passionately in ensuring that we work with the population that we serve to think collaboratively about providing the best service possible. We cover a wide geographical location, covering a bustling multicultural population in the cities and also quieter more rural locations. You would be based in a multi-disciplinary team working alongside other psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists and support workers. We are a dynamic multidisciplinary team who are responsive to the ‘voice’ of the population, harnessing the diversity of our local population and team innovatively.
