Band 3 Podiatry Assistant - Bedforshire ELFT

 full time contract

37.5  hours per week  

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative Podiatry Assistant to work within our Specialist Podiatry Service in Bedford Hospital.

 This post is primarily set in Bedford hospital.

You will be willing to work in clinic both independently, and as part of a team.

You must have experience of supporting Podiatry staff in a clinical setting.

Ideally you will have experience conducting thorough vascular & neurological assessment of lower limb & foot.

You will support procurement processes with the service to ensure footwear is prescribed; clinical stores & sterile instrumentation stock is maintained.

Each week your role will require supporting our Podiatrists by assisting them in a hospital setting.

You will adhere to service user records policy on our clinical system.  Your role will include relevant administration to support any care you provide and to communicate with other health professionals & colleagues.

You will also  be required to step in to an administration supporting role to assist colleagues with appointment booking or reception.

 Providing day-to-day operational support and a range of clerical, administrative and
secretarial services to the Podiatry Service in a clinical environment, at the Diabetic Foot
Clinic at Bedford Hospital.
 To work in a clinical room, in uniform, in order to be able to assist podiatrists during
patient treatment, by preparing patients, holding patients legs for short periods of time,
passing equipment and processing clinical swabs, bone cultures etc, to assist with patient
care, as directed by a senior clinician.
 To be aware and sensitive to distressing sights, smells and conversations and to be able
to assist the Podiatrist in cleaning up bodily fluids following appropriate procedure.
 To be the main port of contact for service queries and successfully deal with personal and
telephone queries made by the general public, health care professionals and consultants,
recognising and referring queries, which require the decision of clinicians.
 To redirect inappropriate referrals and maintain filing systems in order that queries
regarding such redirections can be answered.
 To observe and maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
 Ability to work on several different information systems in order to provide clinicians and
other health care workers with clinical information about patients. Responsible for good
note keeping, entering information into patient records and managing staff ledgers.
 To provide a quality patient booking service, responding to urgent requests for
appointments in an acute setting. Being responsible for alerting the appropriate managers
when clinics are reaching capacity or insufficiently booked in order to make the best use
of available resources.
 Ensure that audit data is captured in line with department guidelines and data is provided
in a timely way. Provide service reports as required.
 To support new developments within the department. To be prepared to provide cover for
absent staff in a variety of locations across the county.
 Order stationery and other items as required, maintain stock control.
 Maintain own professional development and to take part in the appraisal and supervision
process.

  • To complete on a daily basis essential administrative tasks, particularly in entering appointment outcomes onto the computer and updating patients demographic details

Specific requirements

  • To post holder will be required to undertake moderate repetitive physical effort to control and position the foot and lower limb in order to perform intricate clinical footcare requiring precision hand eye co-ordination over prolonged periods
  • Sufficient to perform the duties of the post with any aids and adaptations
