Job overview
We are seeking to recruit ambitious and motivated Specialty Doctors in psychiatry to join our Inpatient Team in Bedfordshire and Luton.
Successful applicants will have completed at least 4 years of postgraduate clinical experience at least two of which should be in a relevant Specialty.
At ELFT, we will support you to develop your career as a SAS grade doctor. We have a supportive SAS doctor community with a SAS Tutor, IMG Lead and SAS Advocate.
ELFT is a teaching Trust, rated Outstanding by the CQC which provide Mental health and Community Service across East London and Bedfordshire.
Main duties of the job
10 PAs/ Flexible
The Specialty doctor will work closely with the consultant psychiatrist of the team and will be responsible for the assessment and management of mental health problems on a routine and emergency basis. On average 8 Programmed Activities per week will be devoted to Direct Clinical Care.
Direct Clinical Care duties
The post holder will:
- Work within a multidisciplinary setting offering psychiatric medical input in the assessment, treatment and care management of patients, carrying out all general duties including mental state examinations.
- Provide up to date, effective, safe medical care for patients in order to promote their recovery, and promote their insight with a view to relapse prevention.
- Provide physical care in liaison with primary care services and the in house GP services.
- Offer advice and support to other members of the team in issues related to his/her competence and expertise

Person specification
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Medical graduation
- Fully registered with the General Medical Council
Desirable criteria
- A higher degree such as MD or PhD
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
- Approval under Section 12(2) of Mental Health Act 1983, or plan to gain approval within 6 months of appointment.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- At least two years experience of psychiatry clinical practice post medical qualification
- Appreciation and social and cultural factors of relevant to psychiatric practice
- Experience of and commitment to clinical care of individuals with severe and enduring mental health conditions
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in forensic settings
- Experience of Quality Improvement projects & Clinical Audit
- Good working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act
ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS/ ABILITIES

- Ability to work as a part of multidisciplinary, multi-model team
- Ability to manage complex workloads and support others to do that
- Consultation skills to services, teams and individuals

TEACHING AND SUPERVISION

- Good teaching and communication skills
- Experience of teaching
RESEARCH AND AUDIT

- Audit experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience of research work, or service evaluation, especially in psychosis and cultural psychiatry
