ECHO (Early Communication at the Heart of) Bexley is part of Bexley Local Authority’s Safety Valve Programme and is an exciting, new initiative to engage and support early years providers in not only improving outcomes for all children, but also in training and upskilling the workforce to support early identification of SLCN, implementation of early intervention strategies and activities.

You will be an experienced and self-motivated, speech and language therapist with a proven track record of working with partners in local authority early years.  Working alongside Early Years Area SENCo’s & Officers you will use your specialist knowledge to support the design and implementation of ECHO Bexley to identified early years providers in the borough.  

You will work as an integral member of the Local Authority team in the delivery of ECHO Bexley, line managed by the Operational Lead for the programme.  Whilst working autonomously of Bexley Children's SLT Service, professional and clinical supervision will be provided by the team, as well as capacity given to meet the Trust’s quality requirements.

Main duties of the job

Working collaboratively with Early Years Area SENCOs/Early Years Specialist Officers and other members of the early years team you will:

Co-design and deliver ECHO Bexley to identified early years providers in Bexley.

Work with early years practitioners to increase their knowledge of speech and language development in the early years.

Work with early years practitioners to identify their strengths and needs in the early identification and support of SLCN.

Use your highly specialist speech and language therapy knowledge to support/make direct referrals to relevant health teams as needed.

Work with early years practitioners to support active parent/carer participation in the development of their child’s communication.

 Deliver training to members of the early years team and early years providers to support early identification /intervention of SLCN.

Work with providers to monitor children's progress using appropriate screening/tracking tools.

Contribute to the reporting of impact and evaluation of outcomes and data for ECHO Bexley.

Co-ordinate and deliver an enhanced level of support to identified settings. 

Work collaboratively with settings to provide a framework for creating and maintaining high quality communication environments.

Work in partnership with other early years professionals to align support across Bexley for increased awareness of the importance of early communication development, early identification and intervention of SLCN.
