Job overview

  • This role will work in a small, dedicated Safeguarding team providing safeguarding adults advice, training, support and coordination to our organisation.
  • The role will support the promotion and development of local provision to meet the legislative requirements of the Care Act and associated NHS and Trust Safeguarding guidance and policies to ensure patients are supported and kept safe. 
  • The Safeguarding team is part of gesh Group (St George's, Epsom & St Helier Hospitals Group) and this post is site based between St Helier and Epsom General Hospital. 
  • This role is open to social workers, registered nurses and allied health professionals with the relevant experience. 
  • The role will support with MCA related work. As a band 7 position, the staff member must be able to manage complex safeguarding cases and act autonomously.
  • This role will also include identifying and working on strategic areas for development in adult safeguarding within the trust. 
  • The post holder will be proactive in the delivery of mandatory and bespoke training linked to our teams work in accordance with the Trust’s Safeguarding Training Strategy.  
  • The post holder will be well versed with both the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (and the MCA Amendment Act 2019) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, alongside the Care Act 2014 and Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
  • This role is a 3 day per week role that is based cross site between St Helier and Epsom General hospitals. Interviews will be conducted face to face.

  • Role will contribute towards the management  and coordination of the hospital adult safeguarding response with the organisation; with support from the team and adult safeguarding lead
  •  The role will support the wards and department where patients may be experience or at risk of abuse and self neglect to facilitate safe discharge and ensure people receive adequate support.
  • Respond to concerns around hospital care and treatment where adult safeguarding input may be required. 
  • Support other areas within the wider team, including MCA, ED Liaison and Learning Disability Liaison
  • Delivering training to staff 
  • Contribute to learning and strategic development within the organisation around adult safeguarding, such as training and addressing organisational issues. 
  • The role will also include assessment under the MCA 2005. With training for the BIA role available if the applicant is not yet qualified.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current registration with a regulatory body within health and social care
  • Qualified BIA or willingness to undertake
  • Masters level degree or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Comptency based teaching qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration expereince including relevant safeguarding experience within the NHS/LA or other setting
  • Demonstrable understanding of the role of safeguarding practitioner
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of managing complex cases
  • Experience of working with MCA
