Would you like to work in a dynamic, ethnically diverse, NHS community Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy team who prioritise training and supervision?

 

Due to internal promotion, our Speech and Language Therapy Team situated in the London Borough of Redbridge have an exciting opportunity for a Developing Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join us on a full-time  basis to work in our paediatric early intervention, complex needs and mainstream school assessment team. We are a well-established service serving a diverse London community. This post will ideally suit an established Band 5 looking for a new challenge or a developing speech and language therapist ready to diversify in their career.

 

Working as part of the team you will provide a service for children aged 0-16 presenting with a range of speech, language and communication needs within our child development centre and community clinics and schools.

 

 

 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

·       To provide a comprehensive Speech and Language Therapy Service to clients referred with complex needs, social communication needs and speech and language disorders in a range of settings such as schools, community clinics and the child development centre to include assessment, diagnoses and treatment.

 

Candidates will need to demonstrate the following requirements:

·         A recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent and relevant professional registration

·        Developing skills in terms of assessment and therapy for children and young people  with speech langauge and communication needs and an interest in early intervention and social communication.

·         Outstanding interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as an effective multi-disciplinary team member.

·          Willingness to develop in the supervision of junior colleagues and students

 

Candidates will need to demonstrate the following requirements:

·        Developing skills in terms of assessment and therapy for children and young people  with speech langauge and communication needs and an interest in early intervention and social communication.

Starting with NELFT 

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

 

Probationary Period 

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

 

High-Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436) pro rata for part time staff.

·       To act as an autonomous, registered practitioner who is legally and professionally accountable for own unsupervised actions guided by the professional code of conduct and Trust guidelines and protocols.

·       To design and develop evidence-based treatment and management programmes to be implemented within the multi-disciplinary teams available, and within the child’s family.

·       To contribute to innovative practices in speech and language development by using research, evidence-based practice, literature and peer review.

·       To maintain a high level of concentration in all aspects of patient care at all times. In particular, to monitor auditory, visual and kinaesthetic aspects of communication adapting and facilitating treatment programmes and the use of augmentative communication systems communication aids according to perceived clients needs including cultural and linguistic differences.

·       To develop and maintain the skills and knowledge required of a Speech and Language Therapist working in early intervention principles including appropriate assessments, treatment programmes and the use of augmentative communication systems and communication aids.

·       To make differential diagnosis on the basis of assessment evidence providing advice when appropriate.

·       To adapt and facilitate treatment programmes and the use of augmentative communication systems/ communication aids according to perceived client’s needs.

·       To maintain sensitivity at all times to the emotional needs of clients/carers when imparting complex /distressing information regarding the nature of the client’s difficulties and the impact on individuals and their families.

·       To demonstrate empathy with clients, carers, families and colleagues, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.

·       To work closely with clients, carers and families, agreeing decision making relevant to the patient/client management.

·       To provide patients and relatives with information and education thus ensuring they have meaningful choices that promote dignity, independence and quality of life.

·       To demonstrate skills in motivating clients and /or carers to engage in the therapeutic process.
