Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Medical Workforce Team working as a Medical Workforce Advisor at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. 

The post holder to provide a comprehensive Medical HR Service, to meet the needs of the divisions in an effective and professional manner,  including recruitment, junior doctor rotations, HR advice and support to medical staff, in all aspects of employment, including contracts of employment, interpretation of terms and conditions of service and policies and procedures.

 The role will involve working closely with various Business Managers and Clinical Leads to agree and deliver on SLAs within the service, and internal colleagues as appropriate to provide a consistent and responsive service. 

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be expected to have previous experience of working in a busy office environment and be able to display a high standard of communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. Applicants should be self-motivated and a committed team player with the ability to work independently. The ability to prioritise workload, maintain flexibility in response to change and a proactive approach to work is important; as is the ability to maintain a calm, positive attitude and use of initiative when dealing with unexpected situations.

The successful applicant must have good IT skills with the ability and willingness to learn new tasks and systems, particularly desirable would be experience in Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions, Trac, Health Roster and ESR. You must be able to confidently manage your own workload and prioritise constant competing demands.

You will need excellent attention to detail and will be used to producing high quality of work, even when under pressure. Excellent customer service skills are essential to this role as you will be liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including, Consultants, divisional managers and medical staff.

•    To ensure a robust medical and dental recruitment service in line with the NHS Employment Checks Standard, Care Quality Commission and NHSLA requirements.

•    Lead on major medical and dental recruitment campaigns for the Trust.

•    Ensure that vacancy control (VC) log is sent out to managers and deals with queries as appropriate.

•    Responsible for advertising all medical and dental appointments and keeping check on progress on TRAC and issuing contracts

•    Responsible for the organisation of Consultant appointments ensuring the processes are conducted in accordance with trust policy, the NHS Appointment of Consultant regulations and Royal College protocols ensuring a sound and equal opportunities approach in all aspects of the recruitment and interview process. 

•    Monitor emails from line managers and escalate to Medical Workforce Team Leader as appropriate.

•    Produce KPI reports on a weekly basis and distributes to the CBU’s such as AAC tracker, establishment reports, fixed term contract monitoring

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent experience in HR environment
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
  • IT qualifications such as ECDL or equivalent level of computer literacy using all Microsoft office packages
Desirable criteria
  • Associate Membership of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a recruitment role
  • Experience of planning, managing and monitoring project(s)for improvement
  • Experience of using, reviewing and establishing work processes to respond to changing requirements
  • Experience of developing, documenting and managing the delivery of Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Experience of planning, organising and scheduling activities of self and team in a pressured working environment with changing priorities
  • Experience of advising managers on the employment Terms and Conditions for all Medical and Dental Staff
  • A working knowledge of employment law
  • Experience of recruiting professional roles involving liaison with professional bodies.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous HR experience with theNHS
  • Medical recruitment experience in setting up advisory appointments committee for consultants
  • Experience of dealing with complex HR and payroll issues
