Management Accountant

Job overview
Working closely with the Finance Manager and three Assistant Finance Managers, you will be producing high quality financial information, including analysis of grants, commercial trial finances, monthly management accounts and forecasts.
You will be looking to develop your skills in providing sound support and advice to the research teams to help manage their research portfolio finances. You will have excellent communication skills and be highly computer literate, with excellent attention to detail.
Main duties of the job
To assist in the provision of an efficient and professional management accounting service to Departments within the Division/Directorates and the Trust.
The focus of this post will be the production of budget reports from the ledger, investigation of variances from plan and ensuring that any necessary changes are identified and actioned.

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree level or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Progress towards the completion of a CCAB recognized accountancy qualification or in exceptional circumstances, to have gained experience with is considered equivalent to progress towards completion of such qualifications
Experience
Essential criteria
- 1-2 years experience within a finance function in a Management Accounts or Financial control role
Desirable criteria
- Experience within an acute hospital setting or other large complex organisation as a management accountant
- Experience in managing Service Level Agreement portfolios and related invoicing and cost tracking
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Able to understand and apply the concepts and techniques for budgeting, financial planning, costing, pricing, variance analysis and reporting
- Good, well presented written and verbal communication skills
- Strong excel skills, confident in the use of pivots, vlookups, sumifs and other fomulas
- Able to demonstrate competence in the use of the General Ledger and other financial systems within the department.
- Able to demonstrate an ability to analyze and interpret financial data
- Able to demonstrate strong attention to detail
- Able to work effectively to tight deadlines, often involving the management and prioritization of multiple tasks with conflicting priorities.
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of the link between financial data and influencing factors
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of the rationale for budgetary control, Standing Financial Instructions/Standing Orders and the means for ensuring that they are adhered to
- Able to deal quickly with questions and information requests and to respond in a way in which non-finance staff will understand and can make use of
- Able to demonstrate an active interest in the development of their skills, experience and career.
Desirable criteria
- Able to demonstrate competence in the use of other software packages eg Oracle and Qlik Sense
