Job overview
The Haemato-oncology would like to provide the opportunity for appointing a Clinical Academic Nurse Researcher.
The clinical academic nurse researcher will be a highly experienced, knowledgeable nurse leader, who provides clinical, research and professional leadership in support of Haemato-Oncology research services.
The post will be divided into two elements, health sciences research and clinical service delivery for Haemato-Oncology Research.
The post holder will lead and be responsible for the delivery of effective nursing for a complex group of patients and their families, whilst they are undertaking clinical trials, ensuring compassionate and efficient care, and making certain the patient is always central to the service and how it is delivered. Supporting academic exploration of real-world problems in Haemato-Oncology, this role will provide research evaluating approaches to care delivery and outcomes, in order that we can learn and evolve our clinical practice.

Main duties of the job
As a Clinical Academic Nurse Researcher, the post holder will be expected to develop an independent research profile within Haemato-Oncology research also providing research expertise across the Clinical Research Directorate, and wider Trust.
The post holder will work with the Strategic Lead for Applied Health Research, Head of Clinical Research Delivery, Lead Nurse for Clinical Research –Trust, and Divisional Nurse Director for Cancer Services, to develop the research environment within the directorate, division, and the wider Trust by leading and supporting activities that build and develop research awareness, capability, and capacity in nursing

- To provide a clear focus for research nursing, giving a highly visible and authoritative presence within the unit. To be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality care and ensuring that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery whatever the setting.
- To maintain a clinical case load.
- Ensure research nurses work at an appropriate practice level, providing a specialist service and level of expertise in their specialist area ensure their interventions are timely and well documented.
- Ensure research nurses offer all relevant patients a Holistic Needs Assessment at appropriate patient milestones, be responsible for this data collection and make sure that the HNA enables the research nurses to devise personalised care plans, ensuring patient’s needs are met holistically.
- Provide clinical research direction to the development and ongoing evaluation of the Haemato-Oncology research service

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- First level registration
- First level degree in a relevant specialty
- MSc in relevant subject
- Relevant formal teaching / mentoring experience
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Doctorate Qualification (DPhil/PhD/Professional Doctorate) in a health-related area or working towards.
Desirable criteria
- Post Registration qualification in cancer nursing
- Completed a Leadership and management course or module.

- Significant relevant post-registration experience
- Clinical management experience
- Experience of managing staff
- Evidence of being able to work across organisational boundaries
- Significant experience of working within haemato-oncology
- Quality Improvement / Service Development experience

- Conference presentation of research findings

- Demonstrable experience in a range of cancer care settings

Essential criteria
- Experience in a specialist nursing role
- Evidence of good leadership qualities, including delegation and co-ordination of teams
- The ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English to a wide range of people both internally and externally, often involving highly complex or sensitive information.
- Specialist research knowledge and activity from the initiation of research to its dissemination (papers and/or abstracts)
- Understanding of process for application for research grants and/or fellowships
- Ability to demonstrate self-motivation.
