Job overview
Clinical Research fellow required for a fully funded 3-year PhD in Translational Research in Head and neck cancer at the Institute of Cancer Research Cancer and the Royal Marsden hospital. This post has an 80:20 split between laboratory and clinical research. The research involves genomic sequencing of patient samples, bioinformatics analysis and design of biomarker based translational studies.
The post is suitable for trainees in clinical or medical oncology. Trainees from other specialities such as surgery and pathology are welcome to apply if they have suitable skills and are interested in translational research in Head and Neck cancer.

- Clinical Management of Head & Neck Cancers
- Clinical research and advanced data analysis skills
- Presentation, publication and peer review
- Audit and guideline development

Essential criteria
- Eligible for full Registration with the GMC
- MRCP
Experience
Essential criteria
- ST3 or above level of experience in full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a parttime or flexible basis) at least one of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and manage junior doctors
- Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems; able to prioritise clinical need.
- Motivated to ensure the achievement of defined targets
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely
- Excellent numerical skills
Desirable criteria
- Interest in head & Neck cancers
- Research experience and data analysis skills
- Wet lab experience
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
Essential criteria
- All applicants able to demonstrate skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
- Good communications skills, ability to work as part as a team, take initiative and make decisions.
Desirable criteria
- Basic knowledge and interest in head & neck cancers
- Basic bioinformatics skills including coding in “R”
