Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term Band 7 Practice Educator role within Medical Day Unit Chelsea. We are looking for a committed, highly skilled, motivated, flexible, and enthusiastic nurse who will be responsible for supporting all nurses with and without cancer experience whilst they become clinically competent in the care of cancer patients.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for delivering a high quality evidence based education to nurses within the MDU and across the Trust. This will include supporting the education and training of nursing staff in IV drug / SACT administration; venepuncture and cannulation; and the care and maintenance of all types of vascular access devices.
The post holder will also be responsible for promoting high standards of care through the demonstration of clinical expertise and the creation of a clinical environment that encourages learning and professional development. The post holder will also work closely with the MDU Sister / Charge Nurse to foster a supportive working environment and maintain staff morale

- Act as a role model and coach in clinical practice, particularly for junior nursing staff.
- Regularly assessing and reviewing progress towards competence and giving feedback to staff.
- Work clinically alongside staff to ensure clinical competency and development needs are met e.g. SACT/Venepuncture/Cannulation.
- Maintaining accurate and up to date records on staff training and support.
- Ensure newly appointed staff nurses have been introduced to the information technology available in clinical areas to enable them to access information about relevant Trust policies and procedures.

Essential criteria
- NMC Registration
- Evidence of on-going professional development
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent
- Mentorship qualification of equivalent
Desirable criteria
- PgCert in education or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Sufficient post registration nursing experience in oncology or speciality to be confident and competent in using the required skills to do the job
- Competent in SACT administration
- Competent in Venepuncture and Cannulation
- Competent in Medicine Management (Oral/IV)
- Competent in accessing Ports or willing to develop skill
