Job overview

We would like to offer an opportunity for an experienced stoma care nurse to join our team in a fixed term position from 6th January 2025 until 29th June 2025. The post holder will be working alongside a second part time stoma nurse, as well as part of a wider team of tumour site specific clinical nurse specialists. Applicants should be an experienced stoma care nurse and it is essential that they are able to independently site for stomas and ideally have completed an accredited stoma care course.  

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi disciplinary team and service users related to the specialty. In addition the post holder will be required to liaise with their peers across the Trust, the divisional management team and appropriate corporate directorates and teams. The post holder will be expected to liaise with colleagues external to the Trust and national networks as appropriate to the specialty.

  • To use advanced clinical judgement to plan, implement and evaluate care for patients throughout their cancer pathway The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust Job application: Clinical Nurse Specialist  
  • In collaboration with the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists, to formulate and/or revise relevant policies and to regularly review these following change/implementation. To work within the procedures and policies of the Trust.  
  • In conjunction with the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists, to develop assessment tools that will ensure an appropriate level of nursing intervention so that patients with complex needs are referred to the appropriate specialist/s.  
  • To manage an agreed caseload, using in depth knowledge of the patient / client group and acting as the key worker where appropriate.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registration
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Qualification in stoma care
  • Diploma or Degree level study (or equivalent)
  • Trained in stoma siting

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Sufficient post registration nursing experience in stoma care to be confident and competent in using the required skills to do the job
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Clinical Management
  • Evidence of relevant teaching experience

Skills Abilities/knowledge
