SENIOR DENTAL NURSE IN ORTHODONTICS

 

The post holder deputises for the Dental Nurse Manager ensuring the effective running of the department in their absence.

 

They are responsible for the work and supervision of dental nurses, dental nurse specialists, RGN’s and Hygienists provide nurse & hygienist services to the department and liaise with various staff particularly other senior members of dental staff, Health records, radiography and outpatient nursing personnel.

 

The post holder is responsible to ensure that all clinics are coordinated and running smoothly and efficiently at all times.   Including clinics based at other satellite sites.

In addition, the post holder is responsible for providing clinical caseload and leadership to the nursing team and to facilitate practice development within the clinical area.

 

The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of joint specialty MDT clinics to ensure a smooth patient pathway by being the first point of contact for Orthodontic patients.

 

They must strive to maintain the highest standards of patient care at all times.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the day to day management of the team by allocating and supervising the work of the dental nursing team.

To be readily accessible to each practicing dental nurse & RGN for support, guidance and supervision.

To have excellent communication skills when dealing with patients, carers, and stakeholders (internal and external).  To be able to communicate complex and sensitive information, which may require empathetic, persuasive and negotiating skills, where there may also be barriers to understanding.

To ensure the safe and effective distribution of nursing staff via departmental duty rotas that reflect the needs of the service, taking into account the variations in workloads and patient dependency.

To deal with front line management issues such as staff sickness and absence, capability issues and booking of bank nurses.

To develop and maintain competencies to meet effectively the needs of the patients.  Where change is required, lead and implement and review accordingly.

To participate in the corporate process for personal development through appraisal and personal development plans for staff.

To order stock to ensure that clinics run smoothly.  To source the best offers available in relation to stock in line with budget constraints.
