Job overview

The post holder is responsible for provision of a high quality learning experience for under graduate AHP students at Croydon Health Services (CHS). The post holder will work with the AHP professional and operational leads to deliver key strategic aims and objectives for pre-registration education and training.

Main duties of the job

·        Learner engagement strategies and identifying new and innovative models of practice education across the four pillars of practice.

·         Engaging with practice educators and clinical leads to increase and sustain clinical placement numbers across the organisation. ..

  • Actively participate in local projects.
  • Demonstrate a commitment towards the development of professional and clinical practice (self and others).
  • Liaison with local AHP pre-registration student placements leads in the management, allocation and delivery of pre-registration student placements.
  • Representing the Trust and working collaboratively with HEIs and stakeholders
  • Co-ordinates and provides on-site support, educational input and training and development programmes for staff and learners.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·         To develop and lead the delivery of an ambitious but achievable AHP clinical placement expansion implementation plan across the trust and use a range of methods and resources to evaluate outcomes of the clinical placement expansion work.

·         To ensure that all AHP supervisors in placement areas have the required skills, knowledge and competency to deliver safe & effective high quality supervision and mentoring.

·         Work with key stakeholders for pre-registered AHP students, ensuring high quality placements and supervision is in place across the trust.

·         Provide effective support to ensure a consistently developing, high quality, undergraduate learning experience for AHP students.

·         Working collaboratively with the Head of Nursing for practice development, provide decision-making and professional advice in matters relating to undergraduate AHP education and training.

·         Be a visible presence across the trust, representing undergraduate AHP students.

·         Responsible for developing and maintaining own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in accordance with HCPC requirements and to maintain a professional portfolio.

·         To work with the AHP clinical leads to ensure that the CHS student expansion data collection tool is kept up to date and accurately reflects the number of student placements within the organisation.

·         To work with the nursing and midwifery educational leads to accurately validate Workforce and Training and Education Directorate (WT & E) placement provider student data collection for AHPs on a quarterly basis.

To effectively communicate with individuals and groups of staff across the trust with regards to AHP students performance

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Allied Health Professional
  • Relevant first degree or equivalent
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Up to date Practice Educator training or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education or working towards.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of the multi professional education processes
  • Understanding of national AHP education agenda and priorities
  • Ability to create an environment which facilitates learning.
  • Evidence of adopting problem solving approaches to issues and situations.
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements of Workforce, Training and Education and other regulatory bodies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 2 years post registration working within the NHS at Band 6
  • Experience facilitating and delivering training sessions.
  • Proven track record of planning and implementing service change or educational programs
  • Experience in line managing people with clearly defined leadership skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of supporting work based learners.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Computer Literacy
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Competence, knowledge and skills in I.T systems including data interpretation Good presentation skills.
  • Able to teach/train effectively 1:1 in groups and in clinical practice
  • Demonstrate research and audit skills
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to conduct, audits, write reports and evidence- based documents
