Job overview

The post holder will be required to work as part of the ward and contribute to the on-call rota which will attract an on-call supplement in keeping with the Junior Doctor Contract.

The Elderly Care Department in Croydon University Hospital is a friendly and supportive department that aims to achieve a high standard of care for older patients both as inpatients and outpatients. 

The Elderly Care Department contributes to a comprehensive programme of care interlinking hospital-based care with community provision to provide acute assessment and treatment, community care, intermediate care, rehabilitation, long-stay care and respite facilities for older people.

152 beds are designated for Care of the Elderly patients on the Croydon Health Services’ site including a Stroke Ward for all ages and an Orthogeriatric unit as well as a new 14 bedded Acute Elderly Care Unit.

Within the hospital site the department operates a ward based system so each Hospital Consultant is ward based. Each ward has 2 Consultants, one SpR, two ST1/2 doctors and one FY1 doctor.

Specialist outpatient clinics for Stroke, Parkinson’s Disease and Falls occur at least weekly

 

 

Main duties of the job

Each SpR is part of an Elderly Care firm with 2 consultants, and is responsible for an Elderly Care ward base.  Each ward has 28 patients and is staffed by 2 SHOs and one F1. The SpR will also have a commitment to outpatient clinics.

This post will be based on one of our elderly care wards.

This post participates in the medical SpR on-call rota and is a full shift rota.

The SpRs assist in the teaching of the Senior House Officers, Pre-Registration House Physicians and Medical Students attached to the firm as part of under-graduate training.
