Job overview

If you are an experienced rehab assistant, or as an assistant therapy practitioner with relevant qualifications, experience or transferable skills in supporting acute hospital therapy team working alongside Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapist; then this is the post for you. You will have worked with patients with various medical and surgical conditions and with elderly patients in a rehabilitation capacity. You will have very good written, verbal and audio communication skills, and basic IT and administrative skills. 

Successful candidates will join our dynamic team of therapists who will enable you to become embedded into existing therapy teams with access to strong clinical leadership and established peer group support and training. Based on your knowledge experience and skills you will be allocated to work as an Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or a generic therapy assistant practitioner

Your development will be supported by joint therapy assessment with therapists, monthly one to one supervision and yearly appraisal. Based on the area you will be working in, the therapy team would have a developed in-service training programme.

We provide a 7 day service.

Main duties of the job

- To provide a high standard of therapy care within the area of work, independently assessing/treating patients under therapists guidance to facilitate maximal recovery of function and safe discharge in co-ordination with therapy team and the wider multi-disciplinary team

- Ensure appropriate accurate documentation

- To support therapy team with planning and provide individual therapy assessments and treatment plans for patients within the framework agreed by the therapist to include equipment provision where indicated.

- To support the implementation of therapy interventions for individuals or therapy groups, actively involving family and carers where appropriate, and aid in the completion  of referrals for patients requiring further rehab or support on discharge.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • NVQ 3 level or equivalent courses/ experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of continued professional development within therapy or related service

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Considerable experience working within therapy or related services
  • • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • • Working knowledge of commonly presenting medical, orthopaedic or neurological conditions.
  • • An understanding of the role of the Therapist in general Acute and Rehabilitation setting
Desirable criteria
  • • Involvement in audit
  • • Experience working within NHS
  • • Experience working in, and facilitating groups

Skills, Abilities and Attribut

Essential criteria
  • • IT skills: EXCELL, Word, Power Point Ability to present information, written and oral, in a clear and logical manner.
