The role includes working within the sexual health service supporting people with learning disabilities (PLD)  as part of the Bridge service. The Bridge service is a dedicated clinic at the Edgware Clinic & Vale Drive for (PWLD)

·       Providing free, confidential and easy-access to sexual health services for PWLD and carers.

·        Reasonable adjustments to support patients such as longer consultations and Easy Read information.

·        Consultations include assessment for capacity, consent and safeguarding. 

        The role involves working as a specialist Nurse within the Barnet  borough,  a full driving licence with access to a car is essential. 

The post holder will  facilitate and support access to sexual health for people with learning disabilities, working in the community supporting  PLD and their carers and support workers.

·        Improving access and bridging any gap for PWLD and carers to sexual health advice, information, clinical services.

·        Supporting health, social and VCS networks to identify PWLD, make reasonable service adjustments, assess sexual health needs and referral.

·        Establishing seamless pathways between sexual health services and statutory, VCS and primary care services.

·        Improving engagement of PWLD and carers in planning care.

·        Embedding health promotion advice and support making-every-contact-count towards reducing health inequalities.

 To participate in clinical and educational outreach and participate in health   promotion activity, contributing to the development of new services.
 Participates in and influences local health policy development, including   health impact assessments.
Engages and forms links with relevant stakeholders and professional agencies, providing expert training and advice where appropriate.
Identifies the needs of diverse/vulnerable groups, i.e. young people and contribute to the development of tailored services to meet their needs.
Undertakes relevant need assessment profiles
Promotes safer sex and provides sexual health information to clients as appropriate.

Keeps up to date with and prevents cross infection through application of  appropriate techniques.
Management of / provision of care for quality standards
Works unsupervised in the assessment, implementation and evaluation of client care

Education/Qualifications

  • • RGN (NMC Sub-part 1 Adult branch)
  • • University certificate or equivalent in Sexual Health training
  • • DFRSH/University Certificate in Contraception/ Reproductive Health or equivalent recognized training
  • • Independent Nurse Prescriber or willing to train
  • • Evidence of continuing professional and personal development

  • • LOC SDI or equivalent qualification
  • • LOC IUT or equivalent qualification
  • • Certificate in mentorship course

Clinical Skills

  • • Able to perform or willing to train in pelvic bimanual examination
  • • Able to perform cervical cytology

Knowledge / Understanding

  • • Knowledge of Sexual Health needs of all genders
  • • Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • • Understanding of the legislation relating to young people including Fraser guidelines, of legislation, policies and guidance on confidentiality and child protection issues
  • • Comprehensive understanding of national and local policies relating to sexual and reproductive health
  • • Understanding of the principles and practices of good sexual health and barriers to PWLD accessing services

Experience

  • • Experience of working to PGDs (if not a prescriber)
  • • Experience of delivering evidence based clinical care

  • • Experience of projects/service development
  • • Delivery of workshops
  • • Working effectively with different agencies in the community, voluntary or statutory sectors
  • • Planning delivering and evaluating training
