The North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is a medium-sized acute and community trust with over 525 beds and over 600 community staff, serving more than 600,000 people living across Enfield and Haringey and the surrounding areas, including Barnet and Waltham Forest.

Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a MacMillan clinical nurse specialist with extensive Haemato-Oncology experience to join our busy haematology department. You will provide expert advice and support for lymphoma patients and their families, this includes psychological, social, and cultural support. You will be expected to offer expert advice to other health care professionals through education and training.
We are looking for an individual who is motivated, caring and has a genuine interest in this speciality to work within the MDT supporting this group of patients. The postholder will work with the inpatient and outpatient teams, to help us deliver outstanding high-quality care where your contributions are valued. As part of your role, you will be expected to attend consultant ward round, MDT meetings and undertake nurse led clinics in conjunction with the consultant.
Main duties of the job
The main purpose of the role is to act as an advanced practitioner, providing expert care, treatment and support for patients with lymphoma and their families.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to improving the knowledge of staff within the Trust through education, research and audit as well as developing the practice of others with regard to this patient group. They will be expected to play a key role within the multi professional team in order to ensure a seamless, coordinated approach to care and timely onward referral to other professionals and agencies as appropriate.
You will have recent or current experience of working in an acute setting in clinical haematology or already within the role of a clinical nurse specialist in haematology with a nursing qualification at degree level, Masters or agree to work towards the qualification.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Develop treatment plans based on the specific needs of each patient, including the education of patients on their condition and monitoring their progress
- To underpin practice with the development of robust clinical policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure they reflect the monitoring of patients condition to ensure they are safe to receive prodedures such as blood transfusions or chemotherapy
- Contribute to the development, implementation and maintaining own clinical expert knowledge through appropriate professional development and networking with external and internal forums relating to the speciality.
- Serves as a resource to patients and families regarding community resources and support services in order to coordinate care and optimize patients outcomes
- In conjunction with the Matron and the MDT work with the staff in the day unit and inpatient wards, be able to identify and implement strategies for patient and public involvement in service delivery within haematology. Attend and participate in departmental/ trust wide meetings as appropriate
- Use critical thinking skills to unsure treatment options for individual patients and to determine if a patient is responding to treatment as expected.
- Participate in Nurse led clinics, this will include prescribing blood products (following training as required) being able to prioritise your workload across the working week
- To participate in patient education and counselling using methods such as one to one meetings or group sessions. This will involve you maintaining up-to-date literature, information tools and provision of sources of information.
- Ensure patient has support with completing EHNA’s by maintaining accurate and up to date patient medical records digitally this include the cancer register and MacMillan records
- Communicate with doctors to discuss test results and determine appropriate next steps in treatment plans, this will all you to support patients to make informed decisions during diagnoses and treatment
- Perform holistic needs assessments on patients at key stages of their pathways and document care plans.
- Undertake end of treatment reviews and provide written summaries for the patient and GP.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and clinical expertise of all lymphoma and chronic leukaemia treatments.
- Together with other CNS manage the group of patients requiring blood product support.
