Job overview

There is an opportunity to join a strong team and receive a Post-Graduate Training course in Mental Health, with the advantage of receiving a subsidised salary.

The Graduate Trainee Mental Worker programme provides the opportunity for trainees to undertake a 12 month Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Practice qualification from Middlesex University. The trainee also gains valuable working experience in Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust or Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (North London Mental Health Partnership) in dynamic service. This role is designed to develop the clinical competencies in both hospital and community settings in a range of different mental health service and knowledge.

Please note. You will be working 22.5 hours which will be paid, and the additional 15 hours per week which is unpaid will be for the participation and attendance at Middlesex University for the Postgraduate Diploma.

Due to the travel requirements and working hours of the programme, we will strongly welcome applicants from the local communities to apply.

Main duties of the job

The programme length is 12 months. It is divided into 60% of time spent in clinical practice under North London’s Mental Health Partnership and 40% of time is spent at Middlesex University which is based in Hendon.

The training comprises of academic work and supportive clinical practice NHS with a salary of £17,173 pa pro-rata (including outer London area payment for BEH) and £17,691 pa pro-rata (including inner London area payment for C&I).You will be working in a Band 3 role and will involve providing direct service used care

Current statistics indicate 80% of our previous graduates that obtained this qualification successfully obtained permanent positions within an NHS Trust. 20% of graduates successfully pursued an advanced education qualification, including Master’s qualifications and a health care professional registration.

Working for our organisation

The partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (C&I) is going from strength to strength since it was originally established in 2021 forming the North London Mental Health Partnership.

In order to meet the needs of the new Partnership services you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Trust and Camden and Islington Trust. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSEs - grades A to C in core subjects, plus a Degree with an upper-second class (2:2) or above (proof required).
Desirable criteria
  • Motivated to receive/develop training in CBT, MI and person-centered care.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable interest and enthusiasm for studying mental health.
Desirable criteria
  • Be willing to delivering physical care interventions (activities of daily living, and self-care).

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Possess good communication skills (verbal/written).
Desirable criteria
  • Be able to balance and manage academic work, clinical placements, and personal commitments.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Be able to work in teams in busy multidisciplinary environments across different settings with various mental health complex diagnoses and substance misuse.
Desirable criteria
  • Be well organized, reliable, flexible, self-motivated, caring, able to adapt to demanding work environments.
