Job overview
To provide professional leadership and clinical role modelling in order to inspire the nursing team in the Emergency Department.
To provide a clear focus for clinical leadership, providing a highly visible and
authoritative presence, in order to facilitate the provision of high quality care, ensuring that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Knowledge, Training and Experience
Act as a clinical expert within your sphere of work
Demonstrate expert knowledge by being visible, accessible and using clinical skills within the workplace as appropriate
Provide expert advice on issues relating to nursing care
Patient Care
Respond to the concerns of patients, relatives and carers as they arise and take remedial action as required
Develop patient and carer information leaflets as required and in accordance with Trust policy
Ensure patients’ basic care needs are met
Continuous review and assessment of the quality of patient care and experience
As appropriate contribute to the design and usage of the department to ensure patients are provided with an appropriate environment and that waiting areas are patient-friendly with access to toilet facilities and access for the disabled
Audit clinical care and implement recommendations as required
Maintain patients’ privacy and dignity
Maintain a close liaison with PALS
Ensure staffing is appropriate to patient needs
Prioritise and manage the budget to ensure that it is used effectively to provide safe cover for areas
Ensure the availability of appropriate resources for patient care through the control of department stock
Manage the patient pathway, ensuring this provides effective and efficient quality care whilst reflecting that the clinical needs of the patient is at the centre of care delivery
Act as the patient’s advocate when appropriate, when informed discussion may lead to choices being made concerning treatment options
Collaborate with other health and social agencies to facilitate the best outcome for the patient
Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Level 1
- Completed degree in nursing
- Evidence of Emergency Nursing Course
- Current experience of clinical nursing practice in a relevant large acute medical care setting
- Current significant experience as a band 7 managing a team or department.
Desirable criteria
- Working towards MSc Modules
