Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our expanding pharmacy team, which includes innovative roles such as Independent Prescribers and Consultant Pharmacists, to provide comprehensive clinical pharmacy services across community health and mental health specialities.

We welcome applications from newly qualified, band 6 or equivalent pharmacists. Hospital and/or mental health experience is desirable however not essential, as we will provide in-house training to upskill in areas identified for development.

The department has an outsourced provision for medicines dispensing and supply, therefore the role is largely patient-facing and focussed on developing robust clinical skills to manage co-morbid presentations via our rotational programme.

The base for this role will be Goodmayes Hospital, Barley Lane, Ilford, however as a rotational post there may be a requirement for periodic travel to other sites around NELFT.

Main duties of the job

·       Being part of a specialist pharmacy team working within mental health services (MHS) and community health services (CHS) ensuring that the changing medicines optimisation and pharmacy needs are being met across NELFT within the inpatient setting and community teams.  

·       Providing Clinical Pharmacy Service to a speciality on a rotational basis within both MHS and CHS. This will include learning disability, perinatal, older adults, crisis/liaison team, CAMHS, PICU/forensic, Clinical Decision Unit and community teams.

·       Supporting the development and implementation of medicines optimisation initiatives across NELFT.  Promote high quality medicine use, effective risk management, clinical governance, and adherence to policies and guidelines concerning medicines use across all settings.  They will support getting the best value from medicines spend within this area across all services within a scope of practice.

·       Supporting and contributing to clinical audits.

·       Developing and delivering the pharmacy relevant training packages to assist medical, nursing and pharmacy staff across NELFT .

·       Working closely with quality and patient safety teams to review quality and risk management issues related to pharmacy and medicine management.

·       Providing a clinical ward pharmacy service to in-patient wards and community teams within NELFT
