Main duties of the job

We are looking for an audiologist with excellent clinical and organisational skills to join our busy and friendly team based at Chase Farm and Barnet Hospitals.  You will offer a patient-centred approach and will have direct involvement in shaping the way that we work on a day-to-day basis.  You will be responsible for ensuring that our service users’ needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care. 
We provide a comprehensive range of clinics including:

•    Diagnostic hearing assessment
•    Hearing aid fittings 
•    Hearing aid repairs and follow-ups
•    Diagnostic support for ENT

•    Fitting of digital behind-the-ear hearing aids that are Bluetooth compatible
•    Assessing the hearing of adults with reported hearing difficulties
•    Providing support to cover adult and paediatric ENT clinics
•    Using outcome questionnaires to review patient hearing needs
•    Hearing aid follow ups – both over the phone and in person
•    Helping with service development work and departmental audits
•    Training support for our PTP and BSc students within the department

  • Applicants should have one of the following : BSc in Audiology/ MSc plus Certificate of Clinical Competence/ BAAT Pt I & II
Desirable criteria
  • Applicants should have or be working toward at least one of the following registrations: RCCP, HCPC, AHCS

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in an NHS / hospital setting providing basic level of diagnostic and rehabilitative care (i.e. one year clinical placement as trainee)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with PMSs such as Auditbase and Cerner
  • Experience of assessing patients with hearing loss
  • Experience of fitting and maintaining NHS hearing aids

Personal qualities/attributes

Essential criteria
  • Fluent English speaker
  • Excellent communication tactics both written and oral
Desirable criteria
  • Communicates information to patients and relatives using reasoning, persuasion, reassurance, tact and sensitivity; overcoming barriers to understanding when patient’s first language is not English
  • Dealing with patients having hearing impairment; patients under stress and their relatives
  • Dealing with patients who have on-going medical conditions
  • Ability to pass on technical and/or condition related information with reassurance for better understanding gaining consent where necessary.
  • Daily communication and interaction with colleagues.

  • Knowledge of all audiological test procedures relating to hearing assessment and aural rehabilitation
  • Ability to prioritise & work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding patient confidentiality
  • Proof of continuous learning and developmen
  • Ability to learn and assimilate information quickly
  • Ability to use databases
Desirable criteria
  • Excellent organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent patient care practice, being polite, sympathetic, patient and diplomatic
  • Knowledge of Auditbase & Cerner
  • Awareness of National and Trust pathway targets (such as 18 week RTT target)
  • Ability to confidently interact and share knowledge with staff at all levels

  • Ability to work on own initiative and take routine decisions
  • Awareness of budgetary limitation & constraint
