Adults In-Patient Occupational Therapy Lead

NHS AfC: Band 7

We have been working together in a Partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust for some time, with a single Chair and Chief Executive since 2021 and single Executive Team since 2022. We launched our North London Mental Health Partnership Strategy in May 2023 and in July 2023 our Boards agreed that coming together to create one new Trust is best for our service users, our staff and our local communities. Subject to final approvals, we will be formally established as one new Trust on 1 October 2024.

Our new trust website is: Home | North London Mental Health Partnership

Job overview

The Acute Occupational Therapy Inpatient Team provides assessment and treatment programmes to clients on the three Adults inpatient wards (Sunflower, Tulip and Daisy). The Team provides both Specialist Therapy assessments to clients and offers a needs led, client centred individual and group-based Activity and Therapy Programme on the wards and in the therapy department which is located a few yards off the wards.

Clients on the inpatient wards present with acute or enduring mental health symptoms, and often have other co-existing diagnoses which may include a range of physical diagnoses. Some clients have been detained under the Mental Health Act and may need skilled support in integrating back in the community following admission to hospital.

The therapy role within the team often involves functional assessments and providing professional advice which actively informs the teams risk assessments and discharge plans. The team works collaboratively with the wards’ Multi-Disciplinary Teams.

The Team Leader provides a professional leadership role to members of the Occupational Therapy Inpatient Team to ensure that the team works in partnership with other disciplines to provide an integrated Occupational Therapy service to the inpatients on the 3 adult wards.

Working for our organisation

Why choose to join the Partnership?

  • Generous Annual Leave Allowance
  • NHS Discounts in a large variety of retail stores and services.
  • We have excellent internal staff network support groups.

The postholder will need to be comfortable working in an environment of complex matrix management arrangements and will at all times behave and align with our Trusts’ values and cultural pillars:

  • We are kind

  • We work together
  • We keep things simple
  • We empower
  • We are proudly diverse
