Job overview

We have got an exciting opportunity for a band 6 developmental  role. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic band 6 nurse, who would like to develop into band 7 Breast Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist. You will be joining a fantastic nursing team, who will support your development. Serving a population of over 930,000 the Trust’s cancer activity is comparable to designated cancer centres, so if you thrive on a challenge and feel you can make a real difference to the care of cancer patients, this post maybe for you.

As a Breast Cancer nurse you will work as part of the multidisciplinary team ensuring that patients with breast malignancies receive the highest standard of care and support from the time of diagnosis and throughout the cancer pathway. 

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated individual, with excellent organisational skills and relevant post registration experience.  We require someone  who is passionate to learn and develop their skills to become an independent Breast Cancer CNS, with good communication skills being essential. You must have RGN level 1 with a first degree and be committed to undertaking further study. Your education and professional development will be actively supported by both the Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support. You will be supported by an extensive team of Macmillan CNS’s who care for patients across all of the specialities. You will be based primarily at the Northwick Park Hospital site and expected to work at Ealing Hospital as part of the service needs.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First level nursing registration at degree level
  • Post registration qualification appropriate to speciality or willing to complete (eg. principles of Breast Care Course).
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Mentorship Qualification
  • Ability to complete set competencies to attain a clinical nurse specialist role within 12 months
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced communication skills qualification
  • Level 2 psychology skills training

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post registration experience at band 6 (ideally within the breast service or cancer service).
  • Previous experience of teaching and supporting the patients
  • Experience of multi-professional working
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of audit.
  • Ability to deal with complex clinical scenarios
