Job overview

This is an exciting collaboration between the trust and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT).  We seek to jointly appoint a  second trust-based locum consultant nephrologist at the Northwick Park Hospital site.

Main duties of the job

The trust based locum consultant nephrologist role encompasses both an outpatient and inpatient remit at Northwick Park.

In addition to providing inpatient ward reviews the post holder will also support known Imperial dialysis patients when they are admitted to the hospital and assess suitability for local HD.  There will be liaison with the main unit at Imperial regarding patients in need of transfer to specialist renal beds, medication rationalisation and antibiotic stewardship. The post holder will work closely with the dialysis nurse managers and HD consultants to ensure the patients receive safe, high-quality care whilst an inpatient or within the dialysis unit

The post holder will undertake two general nephrology clinics per week within the dedicated renal centre at Northwick Park. The clinic will have a standardised template of 4 new and 8 follow up patients, and reflect a mixture of face to face and telephone appointments. In addition, the post holder will undertake a third outpatient clinic which will alternate between a haemodialysis clinic at Central Middlesex Hospital and  specialist nephrology clinics at Imperial.

The job includes taking a share of the on-call work on the Hammersmith Hospital site on a 1-in-10 nephrology rota including weekend ward rounds covering one of the Nephrology inpatient wards (1 DCC). This would involve a daily weekday and weekend ward round and board round at the hospital.

The post is offered as a DCC/SPA split of 8.5 DCC/ 1.5 SPA.
