Job overview

The Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams at London North-West University Healthcare NHS Trust are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Therapy Technician to deliver high quality rehabilitation to their patients.

 We are looking for an experienced, caring person to work within our existing therapy team providing a high standard of care as part of the inpatient Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy service.

As a Therapy Assistant Practitioner, you will provide clinical assessment and treatments under the supervision of qualified staff, be responsible for assisting in the triaging, prioritisation, and new patient assessments, review of equipment and care needs, delivery of rehabilitation programmes and discharge planning for your patients.

There is also potential opportunities in other teams within the therapy department working in the acute in-patient teams at either Northwick Park Hospital, Central Middlesex Hospital or Ealing Hospital as the service requires, and may rotate between services.

 

 

Previous experience in a similar role is essential, whilst area specific training will be provided. Excellent inter-personal skills are also essential as you will be required to liaise with clinicians, patients / carers and GPs, as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a high standard of care as part of the therapy team, assessing and treating patients with reduced functional ability, resulting from a variety of conditions, to facilitate maximal recovery of function and co-ordinated, timely discharges from hospital and
    therapy.
  • To work in the community as a loan practitioner with the support and guidance of a wider therapy team
    • To work without direct supervision with a designated non-complex caseload, including assessments of patient transfers and mobility, rehabilitation programmes and functional activity of daily living assessments
    • To facilitate the assessment for patients function including cognitive assessments, transfers and mobility and for the provision of equipment to assist with daily activities
    • To assess and promote independence of patients with their personal care and kitchen tasks
    • To assist in clerical/administration duties directly related to patient activity facilitating smooth running of the service.
    • Plans and undertakes individual therapeutic assessments of patients and uses findings to plan provide and modify rehabilitation programmers.
    • Continually monitors patient response to rehabilitation programmes, evaluating outcomes and adapting input as appropriate, liaising when necessary with therapy staff and other
    members of the multidisciplinary team.

Essential criteria
  • • NVQ 3 level or equivalent courses/ experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of continued professional development within therapy or related service

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Considerable experience working within therapy or related services
  • • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • • Working knowledge of commonly presenting medical, orthopaedic or neurological conditions.
  • • An understanding of the role of the Therapist in general Acute and Rehabilitation setting
Desirable criteria
  • • Involvement in audit
