Job overview

As the 8a AOS post holder you will provide direct care, advice, management, leadership, and supervision of high-quality patient focused services for patients referred into the Acute Oncology Service. These patients include those with complications arising from cancer or cancer treatment, or those patients where a new diagnosis of cancer is suspected.  

The post holder will provide professional, supervisory, and managerial leadership, ensuring the provision of a high quality, responsive service with the needs of the patient at the centre of care delivery.

The post holder will take responsibility for autonomous clinical decision making beyond the scope of normal levels of nursing practice.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake triage of the patient after referral from medical colleagues across the Trust. You will advise and support clinical colleagues on the investigation, care, and management of this group of patients affording access to faster and better care of patients with complications of cancer (early recognition, better treatment, rapid referral to other specialist teams as appropriate including oncology and palliative care).

The post holder will lead the AOS CNS team and provide line management and team leadership.

The post holder will collate and present service data at local and national meetings. They will be responsible for the establishing, delivering and leading a comprehensive AOS within the Trust in line with the National Cancer Peer Review Programme (2011).

Essential criteria

  • • Relevant degree
  • • Master’s level qualification in non-medical prescribing & Advanced assessment skills
  • • Recognised post registration qualification in cancer nursing
  • • Advanced communication skills training
Desirable criteria
  • • Masters in advanced practice or working towards

Knowledge and experience

  • • Experience as Cancer CNS role at Band 7 or above in Acute Oncology .
