Regional Hyperacute Rehabilitation Unit (RHRU)

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with expertise in neuro-rehabilitation to lead the clinical psychology team on the RHRU. The post-holder will be responsible for the development and provision of the specialist post-acute neuro-rehabilitation and clinical psychology service for the Unit, which comprises inpatient facilities and outreach services.

 

The Regional Hyper-Acute Rehabilitation Unit is a 24 bed unit and one of five of London’s Level 1 specialist neuro-rehabilitation services.  It provides hyper-acute and post-acute, complex, specialised, in-patient rehabilitation, primarily for working age adults with severe complex neuro-disability.  It covers a large supra regional area and its programmes include Hyper-acute rehabilitation, post-acute intensive rehabilitation, complex disability management, assessment and management of people in a prolonged disorder of consciousness (PDOC) and support to patients/families of those requiring neuro-palliative intervention.

 

The RHRU psychology service operates within a highly integrative and interdisciplinary model of goal-orientated rehabilitation working collaboratively alongside patients, families and over 100-strong team of doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and support staff.

The postholder will have responsibility for providing a high quality psychology service within the highly specialised field of neuro-rehabilitation.  You are expected to carry a caseload and key work and are responsible for developing psychological formulations as well as implementing a range of highly specialist psychological interventions

 

You will act as a highly specialist resource to the wider professional community and would be able to propose and implement audits/research, contributing towards policy, governance and strategic planning in order to support service developments.  You would be actively involved with discipline specific and multi-disciplinary in-service training and national/international teaching.

You would also join the leadership team of the wider LNWH Psychological Services Network (PSN). This brings together psychological specialists from across the Trust and provides support, training and service development as part of the network.

 

CPD and research are actively encouraged, and opportunities can be discussed at interview.

Specifically, the post holder will:

·         Ensure the systematic provision of a high quality practitioner psychology service within the highly specialised field of neuro-rehabilitation, across all facets of the service offered by the Regional Hyperacute Rehabilitation Unit.

·         To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the team, and to ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional supervision and support of all psychologists within the team for which the post-holder has designated responsibility. This includes clear systems for the effective recruitment, professional appraisal and the identification of CPD needs across the service.

·         The post holder is expected to act as a highly specialist resource to the wider professional community, and in this context to propose or implement audit, policy and service developments.

  • Post graduate doctoral level training (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) in Clinical or counselling Psychology as accredited by the BPS and eligible for BPS chartered psychology status
  • Registered with HCPC as a practitioner psychologist

Knowledge and experience
