Job overview
Are you looking to further develop your skills in acute stroke and rehab? If so then we want you! We are a team of around 30 SLTS who are welcoming, friendly and team focused. We want to provide all of our therapists with the ability to think critically, challenge the evidence base and provide high standards of person-centred care. This involves commitment, motivation and a strong desire to learn and in turn, we will give you our commitment of CPD, the opportunity to develop your clinical skills in acquired dysphagia and communication disorders within the field of stroke, acute and ESD.
Main duties of the job
his is a permanent, full time rotational post across stroke, acute and ESD. There is the opportunity to develop skills in dysphagia management, cough reflex testing, FEES and VFS competencies , goal-setting and key working skills, complex communication management and the chance to be part of a highly skilled MDT. There is also the opportunity to spend time working in our stroke ESD team, where you can be a part of the patient journey from hospital to home and provide intensive rehabilitation.

Education/ qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent and member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
- • Health Care Professions Council – License to Practice
- • Evidence of training e.g. structured self-directed study / formal courses using regular appraisal of research & evidence base to develop knowledge. •
Desirable criteria
- • Experiential training to demonstrate specialist skills in VFS, FEES.
Knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- • Working as a speech & language therapist in relevant specialist field – neuro or acute population.
- o Assessment treatment and management of complex clients with speech, language, and communication difficulties
- o Working with clients with complex dysphagia
- o Working with carers & MDT.
- o Writing clinical notes and reports.
- • Developing case management skills in self & less experienced staff.
- • Delivering and evaluating training.

- • Good written and spoken English
- • Excellent interpersonal skills – including observation, listening and empathy skills, negotiation, analytical and problem solving skills with well-developed concentration skills and verbal/written presentation skills
- • Ability to work in a less predictable environment and to prioritise own workload
