An exciting opportunity has arisen within our service for an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated theatre scrub nurse to join our friendly dynamic hard-working theatre team.
The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust is a busy district general hospital situated near to London’s Heathrow Airport.

Our theatre suite at Hillingdon has 7 theatres and 1 recovery unit.
The specialities include orthopaedics, urology, gynaecology, ophthalmology, oral, general surgery, colorectal, robotic and upper GI
Our theatre suite at Mount Vernon has 4 theatres and 1 recovery unit. The specialities include orthopaedics, urology, general and ophthalmic.
You will be fully supported in your role by the Theatre Sisters and the general manager for theatres, anaesthetics and pre-operative assessment
A commitment to participate in shift work, on-calls, nights and weekends is essential.
Main duties of the job
1. To scrub for a variety of surgical specialities in line with the below responsibilities.
2. Participate in all ward activities as an effective team member, supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse and Sister, taking delegated team leadership responsibilities.
3. To assess care needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
4. To teach and supervise qualified and unqualified staff, and to act as a role model to junior staff.
5. To take responsibility and accountability for a group of patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Ensure that research based nursing care within the ward is of a high standard and in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures. By monitoring patient care, supervising juniors, and evaluating the care that is delivered.
2. Maintain individual patient care plans, evaluating and updating them as
necessary to ensure that the patient’s physical, social and psychological needs are met.
3. Ensure that all patients nutritional and personal hygiene needs are met.
4. Adhere to strict compliance with Trust Infection Control policies and procedures and ensure junior staff and learners are aware of their responsibility, observe staff practice and advise/educate as necessary.
5. Assist with the introduction and implementation of new ideas and methods of nursing care, including research methods.
6. To actively seek the views of patients, carers and relatives on the care and services provided.
7. Develop and practice appropriate extended roles to meet the needs of the patient, e.g. IV cannulation, phlebotomy.
Person specification
Education
Essential criteria
- Current RN/AHP, registration with NMC/HCPC any other relevant post registration qualifications
- Evidence of study at Degree level /Experience in relevant field
- Theatre / Recovery Course
- 1-2 years experience as a band 5 Theatre scrub nurse
- Evidence of recent CPD
- Managing resources and contributing to departmental budget
Desirable criteria
- Computer literate, knowledge of patient administration system (Cerner)
Experience

- Minimum of two years recent experience in Acute hospital experience
