Job overview

The obstetric and gynaecology department at Homerton hospital are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Locum Consultant to join the experienced team of 22 consultants.

The post is for a locum consultant gynaecologist with experience in general gynaecology and one or more of the following subspecialties:  hysteroscopy, colposcopy, vulva and urogynaecology

The successful candidate will join a service which provides obstetrics, gynecology and fertility services for a diverse population from across East Central London and beyond. The hospital has a level 3 neonatal intensive care unit and a level 2 fetal medicine unit.

This post is full time (10 PAs) with an on-call commitment. The post holder will be supported by other consultants and pairing focuses on appropriate skill mix.

Main duties of the job

The Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a locum consultant gynaecologist with experience in general gynaecology and one or more of the following subspecialties: Hysteroscopy, Colposcopy, Vulva and Urogynaecology

The post will provide opportunities to undertake cross covering for the team’s Gynaecology operating lists. This post will help to increase and improve the gynaecology cancer, diagnostic and treatment pathways as we have recently seen an increase in the acuity as well as numbers of referrals to the Gynaecology service.

The postholder will be expected to work collaboratively with the MDT and the other consultants within the Gynaecology Team to carry out best practice for patients undergoing gynaecology treatment. We expect that the post holder works in a proactive way to manage capacity within the outpatient setting, balancing clinical need with Trust and NHS initiatives for the reduction in follow up appointments within the service as well as the GIRFT principals for managing new patient attendances.

The post holder will be expected to work alongside the Senior Management Team and contribute to the Service’s development plans, as well contributing to the overall key performance indicators for activity and patient experience.

The post holder is expected to understand the changing policies and NHS structures in the Northeast London and North Central London and work within the RTT 18 weeks pathway.
