As a Workforce Lead Pharmacy Technician, you will play a crucial role in shaping and enhancing the pharmacy workforce, ensuring that our team delivers high-quality patient care in line with NHS standards. You will lead initiatives to develop and upskill staff, promote a culture of continuous improvement, and support the implementation of training and development strategies.
Working alongside a counterpart Clinical Services Lead Pharmacy Technician and Workforce Development Lead Pharmacist the post-holder will work in ward and dispensary environments, whilst also collaborating with partner organisations across North East London, to ensure all members of our Pharmacy Team have the skills necessary to take advantage of the opportunities available to them in the advancement of our profession.
Main duties of the job
You will need to be a GPhC registered pharmacy technician with a good knowledge of medicines optimisation and a passion for developing others and driving improvements in healthcare. Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills are required to deliver the key responsibilities of the post and experience in leadership, education or workforce development is advantageous.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High Cost Area Supplement
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,551 to a maximum of £5,735).
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage workforce development and training programmes for a variety of pharmacy staff, including Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistant Apprentices’ and aspiring Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technicians.
- Design, deliver, and evaluate training programmes to ensure staff competencies are maintained and developed, in line with relevant regulatory and professional standards, including CQC requirements.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts within the pharmacy team and promote pharmacy as a career
- Provide management, leadership, mentorship, and guidance to pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve service delivery and patient outcomes
